I saw a recent post on FB regarding the many benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar, and I'd now like to add it to my horse's feed. Has anyone had any experience with this? Also how much do you feed?

My mother used to feed it to our horses when I was growing up and into my twenties. I don't remember there being an exact amount, just a "blip" as it poured out of the bottle. Our horses were pretty stout characters...they all were ridden well into their twenties and never colicked, shiny, dappled coats, and great hooves. Maybe I should start it up with my own.

That's what I did too, just a "gulp". To cut down on costs I bought one big jug of the ACV with the Mother in it, and then a bunch of the smaller no name bottles without the Mother in it and mix them all to spread the Mother around, then keep in a cool dry spot till you are ready to use. ACV also works to take the itch out of bug bites and kills fungus on horses.

I pour braggs brand acv into and old gallon jug of cocosoya or something I can put a pump on and use those ounce pumps and an ounce day and night on a couple of my running bred mares that act ulcery. Makes it a lot easier.

ETA The one mare was light brown with a dull coat and her back bone sticking up on top of her flanks and she turned shiny black with a crease down her butt.

I always feed ACV, once a day, about a ounce a day on top of their feed. After awhile of being on it, it helps with the flies.
I have a grey mare who can get a blob of flies in 1 spot, but with the ACV she does not.

No, I probably should feed Mother, but to the horses they just get ACV from the grocery store.

I'm feeding it, recommended for help in preventing new kidney stones. I do need to find the unfiltered type though....right now I'm feeding the regular stuff, 2 ounces and was told to put the same amount of water with it.

For those of you that buy ACV (without the mother) in regular grocery stores, check the labels! Some of the generic brands are not truly apple cider vinergar, but are instead "artificially flavored". You can't tell unless you read the actual ingredients!

I feed 15ml/day. Acts as a fly repelent as I have a mare with immune issues who cannot have chemical fly spray. Works like a charm.

I feed it to one our horses that HATES flies, but I haven't noticed it helping keep them off of him. He also gets a Tablespoon of Garlic a day, but they still flock to him.

It takes awhile to get it in their system, to help with flies.

The Mother is Yeast or living enzymes. ACV also works on Dogs, some of the benefits I have found are:
-fly control
-improves coats
-arthritis inflammation relief
-aids digestion/rids some toxins
-excellent ingredient in natural fly spray
-ACV (with a few drops of Tea Tree oil if you want extra strength) as a spray or soak to treat and prevent mild to moderate thrush.
-Takes the itch out of bug bites
- Rids fungus

Braggs is the brand I buy, if you are using it topically, you don't need the Mother but if you are feeding, you need the Mother for the health benefits . I was also told by an old Standardbred trainer down here that he puts some in his horses water so that when they travel they wont taste the difference in the water.

Just started the braggs with mother in it top dressed on their feed. One thing I did notice was it keeps the flies out of their feed buckets. I poured a capful onto a bucket that flies normally hang out on and watched. They will not go near it! A few that did get close flew away immediately. Didn't think my horses would eat it but they licked it clean.
