Location: Mississippi | Who laid an egg in the gravel parking lot of where I work... Did some research & it is a killdeer bird. They are very neat, lay their eggs often in gravel. When you approach they do something called the broken wing display where they pretend their wing is broken to lure you away from their nest. The babies hatch completely feathered & able to walk. So we have the egg blocked of with bright colored water buckets(lol) & have a 28 day wait! |

| I have those all over my property. The little babies are adorable running all over the place :). Last year we had eggs in our arena, drug around them for weeks then had to watch out for the babies.

Location: Kansas | I had one in the roadway to the barn. Put buckets around the nest and when I'd drive my car toward the nest, planning to drive around it of course, the mother bird would fly at my car. (small bird attacks Pontiac)
Sadly for all my efforts to help her, I looked out the window one day and the crows were gobbling up her eggs. |

Location: Riding Crackhead. | I love those birds. I was always told as a kid that when the Kildeer were out singing it was going to rain. This year we've got tons of Kildeer and we've had more rain than we've had in years so maybe theres something to that. |

Location: Kansas | I have those things in my pasture......and the ones around here don't play the broken wing card....instead they squack, cheap or whatever you want to call it....then run off really fast.
My heeler things it's a game to chase them. Pretty neat little birds though. I've seen them up eating with the horses from time to time |

Location: Red Raiderland | We have them all over our area and I love watching them. They love arenas and when those babies are born they think they are hiding from you but usually from your standing point or on horse back they are easy to spot. They are part of the seagull family. When I walk my dogs they love to do the "broken wing" act and my dogs fall for it every time! Hey at least it's good exercise for my doggies. |

| We had a ton of them when I was growing up. I haven't noticed them at my house, but they have a lot better places to hide here than in the driveway! |

| They are a joy to have around--love to watch them. it is sad when a BIRD will lay down its life to protect its babies and humans walk off and leave theirs in a hot car. |

Location: North Dakota | I always found them entertaining when I was growing up. Where I live now we don't really have them around as much. I remember my heeler brought me a baby one time. It was completely healthy and unhurt. That dog is such a gentle boy he would never hurt anythig on purpose. He found a lost little baby so he brought it to me...lol. The mom was pretty pissed so I put it back where it came from and let them be. |

| I have some at our place too! Had a nest in the arena, luckily they made it in the corner so it was easier to avoid with the drag. But riding around this one didn't do the whole "broken wing" deal it came at you! Didn't care about the horses. Neat little birds! |

Location: In a happy place | I have a nest next to my driveway right now that I have flags all around it so no one runs over it. The hen can play the I am hurt over here away from nest laying on her side flopping and waving her wing. I have seen that many times. But before I knew the nest was there I was moving my truck and she came running head-on to the front of my truck with her wings both stuck out to the side. She was actually going to attack my huge truck with no fear whatsoever might happen to her. Needless to say I have a lot of respect for that little bird. |

| There was a nest at a jackpot last summer RIGHT where everyone way warming up, so I put a bucket on top of it so nobody would smash the eggs. That poor momma bird flapped around for HOURS looking like she had a broken wing. I don't know if I was more worried or if she was! |

Yep I think we ended up running over a couple youngins the other day. :( They were all hanging out on a paved county road and we couldn't tell that they were young ones and couldn't really fly away until it was too late. I felt so bad. |
