Location: Good ole SE Mo | Sorry I know that you guys for sure probably get tired of these but I have a mare that was just badly injured this past weekend and I may never get to ride or run barrels on her again. She is a nice barrel horse and when she's in shape we are in the top of the results around here. Anyways I'm kicking around the idea of breeding her next spring so that maybe something good can come out of this horrible deal. Plus I think I would like to try my hand at this and my husband told me that either she's going to be sold or she's gonna make babies lol I know he's joking since all of this has happened.
Anyways I need some ideas on what would possible be a good cross with her. She gives a 120% every run, turns each barrel with her whole body not just run around it. She is a tad high strung but nothing I can't deal with most days.
I will try to attach her papers to show you her breeding and maybe you guys can give me some suggestions? My mom has one in mind, I have none and my husband wants a grulla foundation horse so that he can get a rope horse out of this lol.
Thanks so much! Plus not sure if this will ever actually come about but is step one is my research process.

Also do you want to do AI or live cover? If you want to do AI budget for atleast 1500 more as sometimes they don't catch first or second time.
Has she had a foal before? She is over the age of 10, I have heard 10 is the magic no. I had a 9 yr old it took me 2 years to get her in foal. Just be prepared to spend a little more money to get her in foal. |

I can work on some pics of her(I finally got the pedigree up there). Price range is I'm not sure yet but not a fortune! lol I figure it will be $3000-$5000 but sure hope it is less than that. |

That was one of the questions I was going to ask, about the appendix deal. I am thinking a stud that has thrown out barrel horses but I am playing around with possibly the idea of something with cow in it to possibly rope off of as well?
I would like live cover but where I am ( Southeast Missouri) I don't really know of anything close, not saying there isn't! So I figure AI is going to be my option. Thanks for the info on more $ with AI.
No she has never had a foal. Really this wasn't even on the table since I finally had time to run her and she wasn't hurt this year and such. But of course she had other plans. This is the kind of info I need to know before I actually jump into this as I don't want to spend a whole bunch of money that could be used to just go buy something already on the ground and just feed her for the next 20 years.
Hopefully her foot heals properly and I won't have to actually do this!

I hope time will heal and she will be able to keep on truckin...but just remember that pregnancy IS a stress and sometimes unsound for riding means unsound for breeding too. |

That is something that will be made sure of before all of this happens. I did tell the vet when it happened and she was working on her that I didn't care if I ever rode her again, I want her at least broodmare sound and not in long term pain and alive. She seemed to think that wouldn't be a problem but no one knows the future. I don't want anything else to go wrong. If her foot is not going to be ok to carry a foal, then no I will not breed her. This may not ever happen but I was just curious what other people thought might cross well with her papers. I really hope she heals well enough to be able to run again. I was just starting to really enjoy running her and we were really geehawing good together lol She got her foot caught in the "divider/wall" between the horse part and tack part of my bumper pull stock trailer and ended up ripping it out of there. She cut her back foot between the heel bulb up around the outside above the coronary band towards the front and then another place down from that line in between the bulb and the front of the foot. Right now she is in a cast for 1 -3 weeks (depending on how hard she is on it) and then we may know more. The vet could touch the navicular bone with her finger in the cut :( We know the outside heel bulb will fall off with the way she cut it but the vet thinks it will grow back, just take 6 months to a year. I know the healing will be a long process, I'm just sorta day dreaming of a decent future for her so that I don't get too far in the dumps about it. But I do know that it could be not good at all.

| You need a strong and recognizable sire because your mares lines are not well known with the exception of MSM. This means that you could easily spend $3K on a stud fee. If that is an option I'd go with:

If you want to keep the fee a little lower and still have a nice baby I'd go with:

Ok... How do you feel about Reds Western Native? That's who my mom is really wanting.
I think I need a guy that can maybe even out her "hotness" She is a quick learner and is totally focused once the task is begun but until then.... ADHD kicks in lol
Thanks for the suggestions of these guys. I am going to have to look into them. I've never been one to pay any attention to who horses really are, I can recoginze a popular name but that's about it. Heck when I first got Dixie (my mare) I thougth MSM was a mare (it had Martha in the name lol) I was having a HUGE blond/airhead/dumb@@s moment that day lol. |

| Reds Western Native is really nice. He fits into the second catagory. He has been producing nice horses, but they seem to be staying regional. I wouldn't be scared to give him a try by any means. |

Another good one.
The main reason I would lean towards the Firewater Flit's is they bring to the table what your looking for AND the Flit Bar/Martha Six Moons has been a VERY successfull nick. |

| I would also vote for Blazin Jetolena or a firwater flit also. But if you are wanting a cow horse too then the frenchstreaktovegas vote is a good cross.

haha Yes the short list will always grow the more advise/options you get!! But I really appreciate all of the suggestions. This will give me something to do to fill in the slow gaps at work :) Got lots to look at and think about.
