Location: Canada | ...even if the current owners are the most arrogant, self centered, money obsessed people you have ever met? I'm talking about the kind of horse people that like to drop names in the industry and judge you by the big names you know and how much money you have (or seem to have.) The things I heard out of their mouths was ridiculous at times..."we only sell our horses to somebodies in the barrel horse world...who do you know in the barrel association?" I couldn't help but stutter I mean who asks that? Regardless I must have said something right because the owners were fine with selling the horse to me. To tell you the truth, I am not in the financial situation that allows me to compete every weekend like most barrel racers in this area, so I pick and choose. This horse is a 2 yr old prospect that is everything I want and I've searched high and low for a nice prospect I'll tell you that much! She's perfect. The owners...not so much.
Question is *drum roll please* (lol) If I buy this filly am I "buying into" the barrel world bull**** that the current owners are living? I could sense they are really into facebook and hearing everyone's business etc. Would buying this filly be as simple as ignoring the bull and doing what I want with my own horse, who cares what their expectations are? Or you think it would be a headache and I could have an earful of negative comments or get the bad vibes whenever I'm at a show? I don't have people to lean on and support me at shows, I go it alone. Tough to psyche myself into competitive mode sometimes to be honest!

| I would in a heart beat. They sound very obnoxious but this is about the horse not them. I have met sellers who talk like that to make you think you are "special" and hook you into buying the horse, not that you aren't a great hand :). |

Location: Deep South | Buy the horse, don't add them on FB or get involved with sending them tons of updates or asking for their input/opinion.
I'm the type I like to stay in touch with buyers after I sell a horse, but just to hear about the horse occasionally and offer my help if they ask for it. If I was dealing with people like these I wouldn't bother with it. |

Any way...I'd not let the personality of the owner keep me from buying the right horse. You don't have to stay in touch. You buy it...you ride it...you don't worry about it. |

Location: N Texas | For me, it depends on if I have to see that person at races. If it's someone I know I'll most likely never come across again, I'd definitely consider it if I really liked the horse. If I know I'm going to see them all the time, I'd probably pass because I won't want to have to listen to them go on and on about my horse and try to tell me what I need to be doing. |

| I agree with above people. Buy the horse if you like it and do not friend them on FB or anything else. You don't owe them anything after you buy the horse. I have a that got herself in sticky situation after buy a horse and keeping in contact with old owners. Fb is not a friendly world at times |

I was also, somebody just likes to dislike everything! Maybe it's the person selling this horse!?
If you REALLY like it, buy it but I'd be leery about them saying that just to make you feel like you're getting a good deal. They sound obnoxious and full of themselves... I'm not sure I could buy a horse from them but it's about the horse itself as you said. I would not stoop to their level and just take the horse and be done with them. It's people like this I DON'T trust though!! |
