Rode a new horse the other day and the front of my ankle, where my leg meets my foot, is bruised and sore. It hurt when I was riding and I'd push my foot back so it wasn't rubbing, but it was like my foot was slipping forward and pressing on the stirrup. Anyone else have this issue? It really hasn't happened before, maybe a few times here and there. I was riding in tennis shoes (no bashing )

I've had it happen before.  but i always wear boots so i know that wasn't my problem.  usually it was when i was on a new horse and i wasn't used to new horses motion of movement and was having a hard time keeping my footing in stirrups.  Or when i was using stirrups that were leather bottoms with no rubber.

Might want to try riding in boots or stirrups with rubber grips and see if tha solves your issues.

I have a screw in my left ankle that causes issues with some saddles and more so on some horses than others.  It's also more likely to happen in a run because Lord knows what all positions my foot will be in.  I use bubble wrap when I need to.  Wrap it just above the stirrup, scure with electrical tape and voila! No more bruising.  Mine got to the point of my dr warned me I was going to kill the tissue if I didn't quit bruising it constantly.

Theres your problem you were riding in Tennis shoes, they have no heel to keep your feet in the right place, thats why your foot kept sliding forward.
