 Don't Wanna Make This Awkward
Posts: 3106
Location: Texas | This past spring I went from weighing 120 to 150 practically overnight. I went to the doctor and everything was normal. Well now its July and im going to college in a month so my weight is stressing me out. I have my weight at 142 right now but I would really like to get back to 120 before school. Im also on the rodeo team and I don't want to have anything physically that could affect my performance, I need to be at the top of my game. I love smoothies and salads but the cravings I get are rediculous! Thats why I can never stick to a diet. So feel free to share your healthy recipes and help me get into eating right! |

I agree! Instead of a honeybun, eat a banana and yogurt for breakfast. Anything white, sugar, flour etc is bad. I think the first 2 weeks was the hardest for me but like everything else, once you break the habit, you're good to go. |

Ditto!!! Eating clean and healthy is still deliscious and is not a diet. Form good habits now and you will be so glad you did when you are my age. I tell myself I am going to work as hard as I ask my horse too. |

Location: Blissfully happy Giants fan!!! | Being in it mentally I think is really important. As someone said, non-processed foods are ulimately what you need to go to. Because I made this a lifestyle choice, it is very easy for me to eat healthy. Shoot, my salads are basically pure vegetables and they are all raw now-I don't even need to cook them as I find their natural flavors really good now!
One thing I find that has been key has been to find a mantra that will motivate you. My favorite quote is, "Food is only for fuel." I don't live by that but most of the time that is how I think of it.
Also, I eat right and exercise because of my horses. So on that front my motto is,"If I am making my horses eat right (or eat their best) and exercise daily, then I need to be doing the same for them." My horses are athletes and that means I am too. Which means both of us are accountable (though we obviously drive that accountability).
Anyways, hope that helps!

One of my tricks to do is to keep out all bad food in my house!! I don't buy cookies, sweets, or anything like that. If I want something sweet I'll make it myself (oatmeal cookies are surprisingly very simple + quick) or I'll keep a bar of dark chocolate in my pantry and that will be my chocolate for the whole month. I've been also trying to keep out foods that have artificial flavors and bad preservatives.
A tip for dinner is to possibly make a canned salad in the morning. http://www.pinterest.com/pin/98445941829698417/ Here's a way to make a salad earlier and it wont get soggy! Another could be making sure that if you have chicken, have it grilled and not fried. I use Pinterest to get lunch/dinner ideas that are healthy and fairly quick as well!
One more thing that you could do is if you don't necessarily like veggies (I know I'm not a fan) you can bake them! Trust me, they taste 10x better baked and sprinkled with garlic salt + pepper. |

| When I stress about my weight and stress about what to eat in order to lose weight, that's usually when I struggle the worst! Try your best to eat better and don't stress about it. I know everyone says to eat 5 or 6 small meals a day, but that's usually when I struggle to take weight off because I'm stressing so much about what I should eat 5 or 6 times a day. LOL Here's some ideas: Apple with a slice of cheese (and not that processed cheese slices) Apple with a few almonds Apple with a tablespoon of peanut butter Yogurt with fruit Cottage Cheese and the Olive Oil and Cracked Pepper Triscuits Scrambled eggs with veggies (bell peppers, zuchinni, onions) Black beans with corn tortillas with avocado and salsa
AND drink LOTS of water! I try to drink the equivalent to 5-16.9oz bottles of water. ETA - when I'm not riding, I easily put on 10 pounds because of lack of activity and I eat more because I'm not as busy. If I'm busy I do much better weight wise. Also, I've made my self sick enough times on say Blizzards and junk like that, that now I'm able to remember how those things make me feel and am able to avoid them. I still have them, but not as often as I used to.

delicious, indulgent, paleo diet goodness:
ribeye steak, poached egg on top, steamed asparagus on top of that, with fresh made hollandaise sauce over the whole shebang. (If you don't know how to make it...Pinterest!)
Another great meal is a carne asada salad with corn and avocado. If you don't want all the processed junk in the salad dressings...make your own, or salsa works great as a dressing.
My husband and I went on the clean eating diet and I lost 20 lbs in 3 months and he lost 40! |

Ditto. I also wonder if you drink alcohol? People forget about the calories in alcoholic beverages but that packs the pounds on too. Same goes for soda and other sugary drinks. |

| I agree with many, dont diet. Make changes feasible. As a heavier et person, I have always struggled so I try really hard to eat healthy. I dont eat close to bed time, usually my last portion of food is 3-4 hours before bed.
I cook a lot of chicken breast with peppers. I also keep a lot of fruit and veggies in the home. I do have a few weaknesses so I try and buy baked chips. I like those flatbreds or wraps instead of break when I make sandwhiches. Also find a mustard or other sauce as a substitute rather than butter. Pop is a huge culprit if you drink pop (ive quit pop now for quite some time and I feel so much healthier and its helped with weight loss).
Good luck, dont change too many things at once. Just make it a priority to go out and walk or job for even 15 minutes a few times a week. Rollerblades are a great workout. Find out what works best for you and dont get discouraged if it takes some time.
ETA Also I know the gluten free works for a lot of people and no offense to anyone doing it just be careful cutting out gluten because once you do... your body loses any tolerance for gluten and then you literally become violently ill when you do consume it.

Location: Texas | For lots of yummy recipes, I get the Clean Eating magazine. It's whole focus is eating clean and healthy.
For me, if it comes from the ground or an animal, I will eat it. If there is any ingredient I cannot pronounce or know what it is, I don't eat it.
Also, don't think of this as a diet. It needs to be a lifestyle change. The cleaner and healthier you eat, the less crap you will want. When I crave something sweet, I grab a piece of fruit. Any "crap" foods I keep for my sons or husband are things I don't like, so I won't be tempted.
Last thing--look at what you are drinking. Too many people drink their calories. I avoid all sweetened beverages and that includes those sweetened artificially. I drink LOTS of water. When I want something different, it's unsweet tea or sparkling mineral water when I want something like sodas. |

| best advice I've ever taken with my eating was this:
What you eat this month will be next months body.
Now - you are determined and it sounds like you're on the right track! *high fives* My favorite stay motivated site is this one - LOTS of good tips for eating healthy, exercising, and recipes too! http://theberry.com/category/daily-motivation/
Personally - I make food on a Sunday afternoon and either freeze or refrigerate it in portions so that I have no excuses to eat poorly. I like chicken tenderloins with peppers and onions, this tops salads well, re-heats well for fajitas, and is awesome in eggs too!
You CAN do it! Chin up - hard work pays off!! |

| I've been working out (at least once a day but a lot of times twice)/eating well for the past 2.5 weeks or so and have already lost 5 pounds. I just make sure to stay away from anything processed! I also don't drink pop and I've really cut down on drinking alcohol (for now lol). That being said, I have a bachelorette party to go to this weekend so I'm trying to save up a few extra calories for that LOL. One thing I will say...I have a huge weakness for ice cream....BUT I've found a way to satisfy it! Freeze peeled bananas and blend them! The consistency is so much like ice cream it's crazy! I also add PB2 to it to make it even more delicious! They have chocolate PB2 and then just regular peanut butter flavor...they're both amazing but I think the regular is better! One thing though - I tested a little spoonful in the the freezer overnight after I made it and it "ices" up instead of staying smooth and creamy so I usually just use one banana at a time for one serving. So that's what I've been obsessed with lately LOL! I have found that it is pretty easy to transition to healthy eating since they've found so many ways to "copycat" the unhealthy stuff! I've also found that it's easier to stick to a healthy diet if you're exercising. I can't come home from a workout and get McDonald's because, well I just can't waste a good workout lol.
Good luck girl!
ETA: I'm sure you've heard this but it's just so important lol...DRINK LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER!!! Especially before eating something...usually your body is "hungry" for water when you think it's hungry for food. I get full faster on less food when I drink lots!

Location: Never in one place long | Everyone has given great advice! I struggle with this too but in the past year have come a LONG ways with my cravings... what worked for me... I TOTALLY quit eating foods that were bad that I craved.... doritos, skittles, starburst etc... haven't had soda in 2 years.... I found that when I QUIT 100% it was easier and now I don't ever crave them anymore. It's ok to splurge once in a while if you need and like others said... don't quit everything cold turkey.... one week just phase out soda... then next another thing and next another make one healthy step a week and you'll get there!
Also... just DO it, start walking, jogging, running EVERY DAY till it becomes habit. It works! I ran in 3 5ks this year placing near the top, I NEVER ever thought I was capable of this but I made myself do it. You CAN do it! :) |
