But I bought a barrel horse! I haven't ran a pattern or even sat on a horse in over 3 years. I switched to breeding horses, but I miss barrel racing and had to get back in it. I fell into a good deal and bought from an old friend. She is a 17 year old seasoned barrel horse, and I'm anxious to get her legged up and head to some shows! Even though I'm incredibly nervous and might puke :

She is small - maybe 15 hands? She holds her head really high, so she looks taller than she is. I'm 6 foot and feel comfortable on her though. She is stout.

Totally agree with NTO. I love the older finished horses. So much and usually nothing to worry about between their ears. Have fun!! That's the most important part

Yes! I love the oldies. They are my favorites. I'm just in it to have fun now, not even worried about bringing home a check or being the most competitive person out there.

The super star in my barn is my 21 year old gelding. He is still running in the 1D down here in Texas and still craves going! He, of course, requires a little maintenance, but he truly is a dream to own and run! I used to shy away from the "oldies" until I had the opportunity to buy this one in February. Wouldn't trade him for the world!!
