Every summer one of my gelding does not drink well. He gets drawn up and drops weight. I have him on electrolytes and salt in his supplements and a salt block. He was doing ok until last week when we had a few days of 115. Any other suggestions? Or supplements. Thanks

Try some lemon juice in the water.  I used to have a gelding that wouldn't drink at rodeo's.  A little lemon juice did the trick.

Water temperature can affect how much they drink. Make sure your water is in the shade & I like to top it off a couple of times a day (we have very cool well water)

A kool aid packet in his water works, or apple juice seems to work too.

Cut up some apples and put them in his tanks. I also put ACV in mine and they love it!

His water is changed daily and is always in shade. I lock him in stall so he is always in shade too. It's hard to keep water cooler when it's 115 and it comes out of hose like bath water no matter if I let it run for a few minuets

I also soak my grain before feeding so that it gets more water in their gut, especially if your feed has pellets.

My horse LOVES the red gatorade. :) We stumbled on that trick a couple summers ago ... it covers the taste of ucky water when we haul different places and she LOVES it!!

Sounds like you have lots of good suggestions ... be careful how much salt you put in their grain/supplements as this can adversely affect a horse when they don't drink.

Good Luck!

Thanks for all suggestions. Appreciate it. Will try these. I'm frustrated. He is a big horse and I don't like that he looks so draw up

Add Gatorade. My one gelding will eat/drink ANYTHING with orange Gatorade on it.

Check him for ulcers. Can cause them to draw up and also to not drink.

You can do both. 1/4 cup in grain or you can pour some in the water.

Id' put the ACV in his feed seeing as he isn't drinking enough water. The Bragg's unpasteurized ACV is well worth it being a little more also. My mare that I have to give Herbs to for her kidneys wouldn't touch her feed with regular ACV, got the Bragg's ACV, it smells awesome, and she devours her feed and herbs now. Was told to give her 1/4 cup or about 2 oz with the same amount of water mixed in it as well.
Hydration hay would be a good one too I think or beet pulp soaked in water...anything get more water into him.
