Do you have to qualify for the national shows like the Great Lakes region nationals or any of the super shows?

No, we go to the Las Vegas Supershow every year and all you have to do to enter is be a NBHA member, I think you only have to qualify for district and state finals and the youth and open world shows.

No those are open entry shows.
ETA: You have to qualify for state finals and world shows. But the downside to the bigger shows is it usually doesn't count towards the required number of shows. I may be wrong on that though.

Everything except the world shows you do no have to qualify. Some states may make you have to qualify for the state shows but we have to do for ours is run in at least 3 shows from one state show to the next.

The only stipulation to the National Shows is that you can only go to one a year....you can't go to Great Lakes National and then go to another national show somewhere else in the country...just one a year.  You do not have to qualify for your State Show but there is a minimum number of shows you must attend each year in order to get to go to state.  Open/Senior/Youth World Shows you have to qualify for or else win or buy a Wild Card.  If you buy a Wild Card to go to World you have to have been a member of the NBHA for at least a year to use it.

I believe they stopped with that rule. I know of several that hit up just about every National show there is each year. I know it was a rule at one point, but I think they realized that a good bit of people would haul to several every year and that benefits them financially so they stopped the one a year rule. lol

Several in this area hit up Dixie and Colonials each year. I think one guy will have attended 3 National shows by the end of the year.

Points. All points are in 5D format. So all the lower level shows are done that way too

The super shows don't have enough added to have a decent payout in 5D format. In my opinion. They have their own set of rules too I think.

You could be right and since the NBHA doesn't see fit to send out new rule books when rules are changed and district directors may or may not pass along new info; it requires keeping up with what's on the website, if and when, they update it.

What are the POINTS good for in NBHA?

I maybe could ask this question specifically for someone in my state (North Dakota) but this is my first year in NBHA. Based on the registration forms, anyone can go to district finals and anyone can go to state finals.

I was reading up for the state finals and it said the state champion will be determined by averaging two run.
?????
So that means the points you've accumulated all year don't mean anything for state? It's almost like a state championship happens just if you happen to have two good runs at the state finals.

So what exactly are the "points" for that you accumulate all year?
I couldn't find the rules for our district finals, so I don't know if they come into play there, or if it is also just an average of the two runs.

I can tell you about the state that I run in (IA) and for our district. We use the points for our year end awards. At the beginning of each season we have the opportunity to pay a nomination fee ($10) if we want to earn year end points. This is totally optional. That is what our points are at the district level. For the national it helps to qualifies you toward world show.

To qualify to go to state show you have to be entered in 3 shows from the time after state show till the entry deadline for the following year. Competing is a national show or another show outside of your district does not count toward your state show entry unless otherwise discussed with your state director.

The points are good for your district year end awards and toward qualifying for world. That is my understanding. I hope this helps you.

In our state, you must run 3 NBHA certified runs in your district to qualify for state. Then, at State there are 2 long gos in order to qualify for the short go (top 15 in each D qualify for the short go). Each go is a clean slate, no average.
District points qualify you for NBHA World.

The state director and regional director decided to payout on the 4D (1/2, 1/2, 1) in our state at all district races - but award points on 5D (1/2 second splits) for world qualifiers. District payout may from state to state. Our state finals is also 4D format, whereas others are 5D.
