If anyone tries to use your credit they will contact you just like lifelock does. They will charge a fee once like $50 to lock you credit if I remember what my hubby pays. Lifelock wants a monthly payment, but the actual reporting agencies will only charge you a fee once. The only thing is you have to call and have your credit/social unlocked everytime you want to apply for something. If you are not going to get any new credit cards or purchase anything by financing you can bypass lifelock and lock your credit yourself for a basic fee and not put out all that money monthly to an agency.

I didn't find out about it until I turned 18 - needless to say, it took me YEARS to clear that up and rebuild my credit.
