In the past, when I rode horses for other people, I was just the jockey. I rode the horse in the barrel race/rodeo. The owner covered all expenses. If the horse managed to win something, it was split either 1/3 and 2/3, or 50/50.

We always split 50/50 when I did it.

Are you planning on taking the horse home and keeping it there untill you find a buyer for it? But you will take it to races and showing the horse right? If so he pays for all the up keep and entrys, if you win money then split it 50/50 and I would charge a commission for selling the horse.

Owner covers all expenses. Feed, farrier, vet, entry fees, etc.

Rider typically gets 10% commission of the sale price, you can negotiate how much of winnings if any.

This is how I've always seen it done.
