Mrs. Troy
Location: western Nebraska | Starting this off saying I love the Merrill saddles-I have two. But the old trees break-the new ones are supposed to be great. I recently bought a used Merrill off of an add on here. I asked the woman about the tree. She said it was good. I made an offer and she took it. I wanted her to guarantee the tree so she said she did. On the invoice it said tree is guaranteed at the time of shipping. I had a bad feeling when I got the invoice but I went ahead and bought it. THe saddle looked good in the pics and was supposed to be a 14" I get it and it is about a week before I get a chance to ride it. I thought it looked big but I put it on my horse and it seemed to fit him. I rode it maybe 10 minutes and could tell it was bigger than a 14". So I took it off and measured it to be a 15". I called the lady and said it was a 15" No, it was a 14". We both called Three forks and yes, it was sold as a 14" when new. I sent the pic of it to Joe at TF and he called me back and said the tree was probaby broken the way the swells were tipped forward which would have made the extra inch. I called the lady and I have never been talked to so rudely-I didn't even get a chance to say anything as she told me with a few f words how it was. SHe said my horse probably flipped over or I dropped it and broke it. Then she said she had it looked at before she sent it. I said who looked at it and she said her trainer. She said she wasn't taking it back and that was it. We took the leather off and you can clearly see where the seat is broken so we didn't even go any farther taking the swells apart to look. So now it is on its way to TF to get a new tree in and around $400 and 4 months I will have a saddle to ride. Point of all of this is that even when someone guarantees something-such as a saddle or a horse-it is only a word. You don't have any recourse except to say thanks for the lesson learned because there is nothing you can do about it. Both of the Merrils I ride now have had new trees put in them. I think they ride and fit great. At least now when I get this saddle back it will be a nice one. But I really needed another one now.

I'm sorry for you bad experience and the high price you have to pay for someone else's greed. Unfortunately you are correct on your statement about recourse on things like this. What happened to people's conscience anymore? |

Location: western Nebraska | You know WimpyB if your saddles weren't so well made and heavy I would love to have another one of them! Maybe you can have a cheaper, lighter version made for people with bad shoulders! haha I don't mean cheaper in cost -just a cheaper-lighter made saddle. But then you wouldn't want your name on it-would you? Too bad, I loved the one I had.

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I bought a used Sibley, and the girl told me it was in really good con. it was used I could see in the pictures, went to meet her and picked up the saddle, set on the side of my truck looked it over looked good as far as I could tell, got it home put it on a saddle stand and I could look down at it this way and crud I saw the cantel was so off/ really crooked, now how in the world did they ride this way I dont know, but they did. Called Panther Canyon took it to them and they fixed it for me, now I have a nice Sibley. They put a new cantel on it, it was something that happen when they built it so they fix it free of charge, love the way they stand behind their saddles.

| If you paid by Paypal you can grieve it, as misrepresentation. |

I did use paypal. THe lady kept saying she could get affidavits from everyone where she rides as to the saddle being good. She was just so rude and keep running over me when I would try to say something that it just isn't worth it to go on with her. I will just get it fixed. It is buyer beware and I just wasn't beware!!!

Location: North Dakota | And even if you have a solid tree, make sure you ask for pics of ALL parts of the saddle! Some "nit wit" did this to the one I just bought...don't think it was the previous owner either. NEVER have seen a Camarillo set up like this one-apparantly someone thought it would be a great idea to do this. Therefore if I ever buy another saddle other than new, I will ask for pics of every corner, nook and cranny! Sorry your experience sucked....at least mine will cost about half yours did. http://forums.barrelhorseworld.com/forum/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=453055&posts=20&mid=7036381&highlight=&highlightmode=1&action=search#M7036381 |

| Did she show it measured at a 14" tree in a pic you saw before you bought it? I know people can manipulate the camera angle sometimes- |

Location: Desert Land | When someone guarantees something in writing - you do have recourse. Now what hurts you on their written word is the "guaranteed at the time of shipping". They could argue it happened in transit or when you got it or whatever, but at the time of shipping it was just dandy.
I would for sure file a claim with paypal anyway. If they side with you, she has no choice - they will yank the $$ out of her account and refund to you. |

Ummmm...not exactly. I paid $200 for an item awhile back thru Paypal. The people took my money and never sent the product. I complained to Paypal, opened a dispute and they "tried" to get my money back but the seller's bank account was closed. Paypal told me basically, "sorry...we tried but the account is closed..."
What the h$ll good is a third-party to handle money if they don't protect BOTH sides? It still pisses me off every time I think about it.... |

If you paid via credit card to Paypal, your credit card may refund you the money.
To the op, you could also put her on the bad sellers list/page if you found her item through Facebook. |

she did have a pic but I couldn't read it. After I got it and measured it I went back to look at the ad again and print it off so I could read it and it was gone. But now that I think about it-they could have taken the pic a long time ago when it did measure 14" before the swells broke and went forward. It doesn't matter anymore anyway-I just wanted other people to learn from my mistake. I have already sent it off to have the tree replaced. WHen I called her I was basically going to ask them to split the cost of the new tree with me because I figured the money for the saddle was already gone. But I didn't even get to say that-her language was shocking to say the least. I just let it go. |
