Location: CentralTexas | I'm using Deep Freeze body wash and Bigeloil liniment, but what are some other things I could use for a sore inflamed back? Can I use an actual clay poultice down the spine? I have a BOT blanket but it's way too hot for that. |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | I have used a Bigeloil/DMSO/glycerin combo. Just be sure to wash it off before you ride. Sore No More would work too without worrying about getting irritated. It's just not as strong. |

| I would want to get to the root of the cause of sore back, hocks, saddle fit, etc, fix the problem so I don't have to treat the back.
To treat any injury acute ice is the perferred treatment, chronic, is heat. I would probably thermotex the horse, massage, chiro do some stretches, long trotting, and after sore no more gel. |

| Sore no more, stretches and a magnetic blanket. They make a big difference in my experience. I do this for my back and my horses.

I've used dmso mixed with bigeloil before, but was afraid to use it around a joint or bony structure. Is it safe? I was afraid the alcohol might be bad there. :) |

I would like to know how you mix dmso/ bigeoil and where you apply it. Would you apply to muscle and joint areas? |

Location: NW Mississippi | if memory serves me right, it's 1 part dmso, 1 part beigel oil, and 2 or 3 parts water. I love it. Can use as spray after run; trailering, etc. My goofball had a fight with the stall door and of course the stall door won. His hock was so swollen. Took the swelling right on out. Just do not get on open wounds. |

Location: Hill Country of TEXAS!! | DMSO will take whatever its mixed with and push it further into the muscle, joints, etc. please know that- I would use a therapy blanket or lasers until you find the source of the soreness. I just ordered Back on Track saddle pad liners to use on my boys although i dont have issues with back pain in my horses. It may help you.

| I just started trying Thermaflex with MSM. I am using it to tighten a leg. It has worked well on the leg. Must use gloves. Very potent. Cannot wrap or put anything over it. POTENT stuff. |

Location: Bandera, TX | If you have R/O a functional physical problem consider checking into ulcers by using the ulcer dx points along the back. If the wither pocket "jumps" or twitches with light to moderate contact and BL20 and BL21 and LIV13 along the 18th rib midway are reactive...try some antiacids for 10 days. It could be ulcers.
The DMSO can be cut in half in the mixture posted above and you get the benefits just the same. |

After 2 horses with back issues, a sore back means a sore back. There was a great article in the August BHN from an imaging vet in VA. You may already know your horse has the pathology and you're treating the symptoms.
Get your hands on the article, if you haven't already. I've been around horses all my life, and every day I learn how much I don't know. From what I read you have to go to a clinic with one of the big xray machines to get the detail needed for a good diagnosis. I'd do that before I started assuming anything.
I know about mine now, and am working on how to manage. This article is great, cuz I'm thinking I should probably do this after each run to keep him comfortable.
Good Luck. |

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | One bottle of green alcohol, one small bottle of vinegar and one cup of absorbine, one bottle of witch hazel mix in a 5 galllon bucket fill the rest with water , warm or cold, Use a large sponge. Soak the horse first then apply the bucket. Have a place to turn your horse loose after cause that stuff will go to work. |

| Try a Back on Track mesh sheet overnight or even just an hour before you ride or in the trailer. It takes away any soreness and makes for shorter warm up it has made the biggest difference in my sore backed horse you would have never known. |

What will it do to them? Make them want to roll? |

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | If you ever had absorbine on your hands it makes your hands tingle and will make a horse tingle the same way. Just like a good massage on an electronic machine. |

Right so why do I need somewhere to turn my horse loose? Usually, I put liniment on and let them stand tied in their stall. Sorry if I'm acting like a dumb dumb but I'm confused |
