Can anyone give me some insight on a hackamore out there that provides
Lift and control? I dont need much whoa but need good control in turns.
Horse has a very sensitive mouth and shes young so still needs quite a bit
Of guidance thru the pattern! Thanks so much! She rides best in a hack
But im worried i wont have enough control or left in my turns!

Up until this last weekend, I've been very happy with my Carls hack from LandW  short shank.....

My 10th run of the season on a green horse and he's finally figuring out how to RUN and the 3rd was set out in the middle of the arena and we just didn't quite have enough to get him to finish nice BUT I haven't tuned on him at all in a couple weeks so we need to go back to some slow work and instill some rate/turn.
I've never rode a horse with a Carls hack until this guy and I really like the feel of it, a little tougher than the little S and a whole lot more shoulder control , lift and nose...not real good with descriptions today.

edited to add that mine is not a Jim Warner Hack!  It's a Carls hack from L and W thought they were the same-definitely not.  Here's a link to L and W hackamore description.  I have the one at the bottom with a rope nose.

I have a Brittnay pozzi hack and I like it on some horses. It has a longer shank. It's similar to Jim warner

I have the ex wright swivel hack but not the other one of his....
Do you think the swivel shank will be enough for a 5 year old with
Only 5 competitive runs? I feel like its too early to put her in a hack
But teeth chiro vet everything has been done and she just doesnt
Care for anything in her mouth. I need something with lift and to help
Keep her hind endd up under her. Thanks so much please keep the advice

I  really like my "BW hack" from Shallow Creek Bits.  It gives me a lot of control, including rate and keeping my gelding's hind end under him.  I've added a link for you.

I really liked my Clampitt hack - thought I didn't need it for my horse anymore so I sold it and I am really regretting it!

I second the Carl's hack from L and W. I have the nose vet wrapped on mine. They come in two shank lengths. I run a cowhorse in it that is built downhill and it has plenty of lift and whoa. I can not speak for the other hacks. I have a Jim warner. a ladybug, and a little s. I have a colt that will pick up his right lead every so often when I head off of him and he won't do it in the carls hack. He loves it.

I do have one that didn't like any bits but was too stiff for a hack and borrowed a ed wright chain and she loves it. Have you tried a chain mouth?

Ed wright swivel shank. I'm a hackamore freak and this is by far the hack with the most feel.

Yep only hack I ever liked until someone borrowed it permanently.

Yes i have tried chain mouth peices smooth mouth peices and she just
Doesnt care for any of them.... She rides the best in a hack no tossing head
Or gaping mouth im just not sure she is far ebough along to run in a hack
And still get the guidance she needs yet... Thats why im looking for one
That offers lift, helps keep inside him under , and has some control. Thanks
Everyone for the advice keep it coming!

Then put a hack on her and RIDE, no one can tell you if it works, start light then build up.  My guy worked great in a little s for quite awhile, it just didn't give me the correct feel, tried the beetle and another no name hack I have in my barn until I found the carls hack and voila there it is!!  You need to invest to succeed :)  I am appropriately verified as a #1 category barrel racer please see the post about the 5 categories.  I have 5 or 6 hacks, 3 goostree's a dutton, several jr. cowhorse, cervi......you get the idea and I haven't mentioned the roping bits yet

I have at least 5 or 6 hacks at least 5 combos many chain its with diff
Shanks etc... There just isnt enough time in a summer to try all of them! Lol!
Horse is only 5 and i dont want to burn her out running a bunch with the wrong thing... I know its all trial and error but so frustrating!

My horse HATES anything that gags. She works great in a high port which offers a lot of tongue relief. I run her in an S hack indoors and an Ed Wright Pretzel bit outdoors. I tune her in a Weaver Fast Stop hack if she needs it.

So, if you don't know what works, you think you can tell the future??  I'm playing devils advocate here....you're concerned with a hack being too much too soon, to me that means you have enough knowledge to start small and work up as needed.  I usually start with a little s or beetle.
