have you ever had to shoot, shovel, and shut up when the neighbor comes repeatedly looking for fluffy "the wonder mut out of a wolf cross dog" that was just so special and it loved to "PLAY" with your baby lambs???!!?
that was how we lost roughly 35 high dollar show lambs when I was 12 .... thus my Dad taught us how to SSS. |

| Whenever someone has a problem with a neighborhood dog escaping and running their horses or livestock that's what they always tell you to do. |

No, I sure haven't. That sounds horrible.
I spent 4 hours chasing 4 horses that showed up in my yard last night. One was a welch paint stallion, the other's were wild mares. I caught one, because they were running back and forth across the road. I held on to her for at least an hour and a half while the cops tried to locate the owner's. They finally found them about a mile away. This mare never stopped. Tried to paw me several times. She tried to run over me and was a complete handful. The stallion was trying to fight with my yearlings through the fence, so I was holding that mare and throwing sticks at him. The lady finally showed up after we woke everyone up from my house to hers. She had no feed, no halter, no lead ropes......I tried to give her the mare I was holding and she said she was scared of her......oh really? We never caught the stallion. I had to walk the pawing mare a mile down the road in my sweat pants (I was drenched in sweat), while the stallion tried to steal her from me. I finally lost my mind and yelled at the lady to cut her damn stallion and if he came back to my house I was going to shoot him (this was 3 hours and 45 minutes into the ordeal at 0230). I tried to hold it in, but it exploded out of me.....
and, that folks, is how I learned the acronym SSS.....in case he returns tonight..... |

Location: NE Texas | Didn't catch mine either....ran him into the arena and into the cattle chute as far as hed go, put a rope behind him, called vet. Told owner later. I don't do stallions on my property!
I did have another idiot that put a stallion in the pastue next to mine.....fresh with the sale barn tags still on his butt. I found him hung up in the fence trying to get to the FG daughter I had at the time. I caught my mare and called owner on the way back and said he had about 5 minutes to come get his prize stallion out of my fence before he becomes coyote food. He came and got him and somehow got him out of the fence and then had to rope him and proceeded to tell me he was right next to mares at his house and never caused any problems.....really?!?!?! Didn't know you lived at the sale barn.... |
