| I'm considering doing the same. Can't remember who here runs in a cutting saddle made by Koen I think??
Wondering about the Bob's brand(has the Boyd Rice tree) as well as the Jeff Smith (has a buster Welch cutting tree)
My mare is a bit too wide I think for SQ bars and I want to improve my chances of a good fit. |

Location: NE Texas | I have two of the Jeff Smith cutters, also have an older Rickey Green cutter, and used to have a Joey Jemison cutter. I traded the Joey to get the Jeff Smith. The trick with the cutters is to be sure you get one with an in skirt rigging. I love my Jeff Smiths, how they fit my horse, and how they ride....nice and balanced. Mine are both single skirted and look like a barrel saddle but still ride like a hard seat cutter with a nice deep pocket. Great quality as any of the top name barrel saddles or cutting saddles as well. I can't post a pic from my iPad, but can email or text you one if you'd like to send me your phone number or email via pm. |

Location: Bigfoot Country | Dusty Barrett just made me one on a BW modified tree. Can't wait to get it! He was great to work with!
I also heard that Shiloh was going to come out with one on a BW tree. |

Hollywood's Fan runs in a Clinton Anderson saddle.
She and I have been talking and she's the one who suggested a cutting saddle. |

Hi! Can you explain why you like the in skirt rigging? Does the saddle stay put better? Or just for comfort?
Thanks! |

Location: NE Texas | As far as the inskirt rigging, it just is a closer contact feel and less bulk under your leg. There is no need for a barrel saddle to be full double rigged IMO. The in skirt rigging is a must for me, and I think you'll agree if you ride one that is and isn't.
Here is a picture for those who are interested in seeing these saddles. I have ridden Caldwells, Coats, Shilohs, and everything in between and the quality of these saddles is comparable to that of a Coats or Caldwell without a doubt.

Nice saddle, I love the rigging...I wish mine was like that, I'd probably keep it and run in it, but you are so right about the rigging...I have a brand new Jeff Smith cutter with the double rigging, but of course, I never planned on barrel racing in it...now that I have a new barrel horse, I'm trying to decide what saddle feels best on him...The Jeff Smith is such a nice saddle, but it has a 15" deep seat, which is way too big for me to run in, plus because of the double rigging, you can't really feel your horse under you, and it sits wide to me, so, as nice as it is, it has to go.
I ride with short stirrups and I like to be up against the swells, so bigger saddles feel like they set me back too far, and that's the feel I got from the Jeff Smith cutter....so I like a smaller seat.....thinking of trying a Coats...
