when buying a mare in foal
Peecans
What all do I need to make sure I get paper work wise?
She is comfirmed in foal for 2015, with live foal guarantee from the stallion.

If they haver her breeders certificate, I would request that. I sell bred mares all the time, but they are bred to my stallion so if they pick the mare up before the breeders certificates come, I just mail them to them later. I have never had a buyer have a problem with that. However, after seeing all the screwed up messes people get into on here, as a buyer, I would probably want it in writing that I will receive the breeders certificate. Just to cover your arse so to speak

When I sold my mare in foal, I told the stallion farm where she was going and asked that the breeder's certificate sent to her instead of me at the time of foaling. I had to sign something on it anyway, so it went to me, then I mailed it to her. It's not a big deal as long as people don't lose anything!

You need to make sure the LFG transfers if she is sold. Some stallion owners void it if the mares sells to someone else. In cases like that, we always left the mare in the name of the people we bought her from, then did a rush transfer before we bred her again. Most stallion owners will work with you and allow the breeding to transfer over. But some do not, and you don't want to get in a situation like that.

well I never worried about it until recently I bought a mare and had a HORRIBLE experience getting the breeders cert but finally did get it. I am gun shy of buying mares in foal now LOL I would get it in writing for sure !
