What so many people don't understand. Normal insurance doesn't cover civil riots so the business owners are totally screwed in Fegurson, MO. and you have to have specific earthquake insurance that is so costly that most can't afford it so these business owners are also screwed. |

Location: CA | I feel weird saying it but lucky for us most structural damage and road damage was confined to napa. Im from about 40 minutes away and the quake woke people up but the only damage was power outages. My parents had some water on the floor from the fish tank but otherwise everything was fine. I am about an hour and a half away in sacramento and we didnt feel anything. I am just thankful no one was hurt. |

What is weird is when one of the officials from Napa said if anyone had vacation plans they should just call their hotels and see if everything is okay and if so they should come and enjoy their vacation.. |

The napa/sonoma area is the heart of wine country. I think tourism is big business for them. I have heard from out of state friends the news is making it seem pretty bad and I bet they dont want everyone canceling their plans. If i was going to napa today and it wasnt by one of the closed roads i would still go, but maybe thats just because Im a born and raised californian. Lol |

| How awful! and scary! I just read it was a 6.1.
Oklahoma has had more earthquakes this year than California, but nothing that strong. I think the strongest ones in Oklahoma have been in the 4's possibly 5's. I know Oklahoma had a 5.6 or something a few years ago. Can't imagine a 6.1.

Location: California | I live about an hour from there. It woke me up and the horses were all running but no damage here. The damage was mostly contained to Napa itself. Outer cities had power outages but nothing too serious. Napa wineries lost a lot of wine barrels and bottles and some even lost their entire buildings as they are old and historic brick type buildings. It may increase wine prices for awhile from around here. I am way more scared of tornados than earthquakes though!! I live in Texas a lot of the time and am about to head back out there. But then again earthquakes don't scare me much because I live in the country where I can just walk out into the field and be fine. In the city I would be much more concerned. Prayers for our friends and all the families involved! |

A friend who moved to Texas from California put it this way when comparing Tornadoes to Earthquakes. She would rather be in an earthquake because that least with an earthquake all of your crap is still in one place! |

Location: California | I have a friend that lives in Napa and her ranch got it pretty bad. Friends are saying that she has a lot of damage to her horse trailer, her house was pretty much flipped upside down, and she lost a horse because of a heart attack during the earthquake.
I am a couple hours away from Napa, and my husband and I weren't woken up by it, but a lot of people around me felt it. |

| My whole family lives in napa. My poor grandpa has about 10 rentals that have alot of damage. My cousin had to duck and cover with her 10 month old twins. Last I heard, they shut down power and gas. I guess they are expecting another one sometime this week? I hope its just a little one. |

Sorry for those that have damage. Most don't have insurance for it. However I am told there were no fatalies... and that is great news. |

Common Sense and then some
Location: So. California | Since Napa was the epicenter, it took the brunt of the plate shifting. It also has a ton of historical buildings and many homes are really old... Considering the low number injuries, based on the size of the quake, they were lucky it happened in the middle of the night. Less people out and about to be injured by falling debris.
I'd take an earthquake ANY day over a tornado, hurricane or fire. We get them strong enough to feel, every few years - they are little and you just know the ground is shifting a bit. Strong enough to do damage every 25 years or so. And yes, I lived near the Northridge earthquake back in '94. Wakes you up, dumps your cupboards and a few pictures. Houses can be moved off their foundations, or you get cracks in the foundation - BIG $$$$$$ Scares the bejesus out of you, until you realize the shaking has stopped. LOL...
