Location: NOT at Wal Mart | Duramax has more power, we put all 3 trucks to the test (2013), same load, same route, same points of exceleration. Duramax won hands down, Ford 2nd, Dodge 3rd. Fuel mileage about the same all 3 trucks, Dodge has a bigger cab than the GMC and the ride was NICE! Plus the Dodge was almost 10,000 cheaper than the GMC and the Ford.

Location: Arkansas | I have a 2006 5.9 Dodge, and it will run off and hide from my Dad's 09 Durmax while pulling a load. It gets about 5 MPG better fuel mileage as well. Mine is a 6-speed, his is the shiftable automatic. I can't speak for the newer models though. I've heard fuel mileage pretty much sucks period on the new diesels. |

Location: Fort Collins, CO | but i'll lend my opinion as well to your question--Duramax. I've always been a GM girl, and come from a GM family but i will not even bother saving $$ on a dodge--i'm looking at a brand new duramax. AND, just checking the websites of my town's dealerships the dodge's are not listed any cheaper for a 2014 vs a duramax. The duramax will be nicer (although I like my truck's loaded), and a smoother ride. Plus it can haul too. JMO. |

Location: ND | there is no comparison.....the cummins will outpull the duramax every time and have fewer problems over the life of the engine....you will have a rougher ride in the dodge and will shift harder.....the allison transmission is a much smoother shifting transmission......fuel mileage doesn't matter..... |

| Duramax any day! I have two dodge's right now actually, an old 1998 1500 gas job (amazing, amazing truck), and a 2013 dodge dart. I must say before I got the dart I was leaning more towards dodge because of their impressive 30,000lb tow rating, but the dart is a pile for the most part. The new dodge engineering is crappy in my opinion. We extensively drove all 3 brands. Super leary of Ford because all we have ever had is very bad experiences. The dodge rode terribly and felt like it lacked power. We have decided on a new chevy 3500 duramax. We will by buying one in the next few months. Honestly I have no complaints about the duramax's. GM hasn't changed their diesel engine/tranny configuration for years...because it works. On the other hand, dodge should have stayed with their amazing 5.9 and ford has had so many engine configurations its hard to count. Even though duramax's are "rated" to haul less than a cummins, I take into consideration that my duramax w/Allison tranny will last forever, where-as an old cummins would last forever but will have tranny issues for sure, and no one can REALLY tell about their new engines, but I haven't heard stand up reviews either. I'd say go for duramax for sure. Dealer told us unloaded and broken in, a new duramax in a 3500 will get 18-20mpg highway empty. |

Location: Kentucky | Cummins is a great engine, but I just can't stand how the Dodge looks. Plus they are louder and have a rougher ride. I would go with the Duramax, but I would also test drive both vehicles and go from there. I'm pretty vain, I have to have a pretty truck ;) |

This would be the motor we would be looking for in a dodge. 5.9 |

I have not heard anything good about the dodge transmissions. |

I find it's pretty evenly split between all three. |

Location: Arkansas | I have a 2014 Dodge 2500 with a little over 5000 miles on it. Empty I am getting between 21 and 23 mpg. We have only hauled with it a couple of time and it was pretty hilly-13-15 mpg. We used to have a 2012 that I hated because it was so rough. The 2014 rides nice. |

I agree.... cummings if you want muscle and fuel mileage and longevity.... I've owned both a '96 Dodge manual 6sp (sold it) and now a '07 GMC Dura-Max. I love my '07 DuraMax only because it is automatic and I was tired of shifting...plus the Dodge rode like a semi truck unless I was hauling my trailer/horses then it was smooth. The DM is smooth all the time...but sucks big time on fuel mileage. I have the DM chipped and depending on how it's set up. I can get better fuel mileage 10.2-12 mileage and crap pulling power up hills or 8.9-9.2 mileage and better pulling power up hills, that with my trailer. But I have so much more room in the DM and a super smooth ride either hook up to trailer or not. Now without the trailer the DM get 12 to 15mpg if I stay around 65/7 the way it's set up now. |

Location: The Cowboy State | Duramax hands down. We used our personal 2007 duramax on the ranch we lived on because they ran dodges and my truck would out pull the ranch trucks all day long. Plus they where smoother riding. We pulled 24ft trailers with everything from cows, bulls, pairs and horses, down dirt roads and up big hills, muddy dirt roads. Our 2007 duramax beat the 2008 dodge 3/4 ton and 1 ton every SINGLE time. Plus the dodges where really squirley in the snow. We still have the 2007 and I also have a 2013 one ton. Will have to chip the 2013 for better gas mileage though. |

In my 2011 duramax, not hauling and down the freeway (like a weekend trip 200 miles away), I can get 19.7 mpg. Around town not hauling I get 15 - 16 mpg. Hauling I'm in the 13 mpg range (5 horse aluminum stock trailer). I have a lead foot, though. My husband gets the best out of it when he drives it because he doesn't have to push the max speed limit. LOL He has 2008 duramax and he gets about 13 mpg no matter what he does. I think it's because of the way the emission systems work differently in the two. The 2008 uses diesel to burn off the emissions and the 2011 has the urea tank and dumps urea into the fuel in order to burn it off. |
