| I purchased a Clampitt Hack on Facebook and received a flat rate envelope in the mail on Saturday, but low and behold the seal on the envelope opened sometime during its shipment, and my clampitt hack is now missing.
Thankfully I received a tracking number from the gal I purchased it from - so where do I go from here? Do I call all the post offices it made a stop at and try to explain to them what the heck a clampitt hack looks like in hopes that they can search for it? It did come with $50 insurance, but my understanding is that money goes to the person who shipped the item. It cost me well more than $50 anyway. . . so it would still be a loss.
What step is appropriate if I can't locate the hack? Is it fair of me to ask the seller for a refund? I don't feel I should have to take a loss since I had zero control over it happening. I know it's not her fault entirely, but I do think the an item like that should've been sent in a box VS envelope, or at least taped up so it wouldn't fall out.

| I would be suspicious that the seller made the package look like it had been opened and fell out in transit, only to have kept the item and your money. BUT, I am suspicious like that! |

Location: Kansas | If insurance will cover it, I say just have her refund you the money. I don't know how to go about that, since the bit itself was worth over $50, but I always pay extra when shipping an item that is worth more than just $50 insurance |

| OK, I was wrong - it was sent in a box. I have been out of town and I've only seen a picture my sister sent me. After looking closer at the picture it is a box. Basically the box itself is not damaged, but the corner you close up to seal is opened. I'll have to investigate if it looks like the shank of the hack actually broke through it.
There is a bright green sticker on it that says "Received Unsealed, Received damaged, received without contents" |

That is exactly what I thought when I first read the original post!
I got burned by a thieving tramp in Colorado once. She was banned from BHW, and I know there are plenty other scammers out there. PM me for the name, if that's where it came from.
You should start with a call to the post office, anyway. |

| Here is the picture I received. I'll investigate the box more when I get home from work - forgot to check into it this morning. . . but I want to say the USPS wouldn't accept a box if it wasn't sealed?

I have sold and bought so many things that come and go in those flat rate envelopes and about 10% actually make it. They are horrible. I was a Postmaster at the PO and most all mail goes through Gosh knows how many machines before being delivered. I will never send stuff in those of any value. I can rip one with my hands. Use padded flat rate. With that said, try the insurance. That is about all the hope you have.

Location: Southeast Louisiana | Looks like they accepted it unsealed... "Seller" probably dropped it in the night drop like that.
Contact the seller and tell them you want your money back. If there was even a bit in there, I'm sure they can go pick it up from the lost and found at whatever post office they supposedly dropped it at! It's the fault of whoever failed to seal the box, anyway.
Then post on Facebook asking if they've ripped off others like this so you can all contact the police where the seller lives, to file charges. |

She did send me a picture of the receipt (on Thursday) so I could view the tracking number. . . so I'm guessing she literally had to take it to the window and give it to a human being. . . right? I looked up the tracking info and it said it was accepted at 1pm Thursday. |

| Does anyone think it pays to call up the couple of post offices it went through and see if they can find it? I'm assuming they have to have bins full of other lost items lol. |

| You dont have to take it to a person to get a tracking number. You do them at the self serve place. I send stuff like that all the time. |

Location: In the Hills of Texas | I would call the post office where it was sent from and go from there. Sounds like the contents got lost between post offices I would try to find out what post office put that sticker on there about it being damaged and opened. |

Ha!!! I just hate a thief.
Actually, when I got ripped off, I never had to get the seller's local police involved. I called the local probation and parole office. Turns out she had done this before... A LOT! I'd rather have seen her go to jail. But, her P&P officer was sure interested to know she was still up to her old tricks. I'm sure her story was that she was just about to send my money back, which she did.
So, anybody who gets ripped off might keep that in mind.
After reading more information on this incident, it sounds like the bit might have legitimately been lost in transit, out of the package. I'm still waiting to hear where in the shipping that sticker was put on the package before I completely give the seller the benefit of the doubt, tho. Lol. Plus, I'm a Facebook hater. From what i've seen, Facebook has gotten to be just one notch above Craigslist. It's a good place for people to put false information and rip people off. |

Location: LaBelle, Florida | I have had the same thing happe to me...I refuse to use the USPS for shipping anything if I can help it. I bought a used blanket and brand new set of reins/martingale from a friend. She packaged and sent them in a brand new box.
I received the letter and the shipping (my address) and sending (her address) box bladed off the box.
I filled out the forms and returned them. I got NOTHING. No return letter stating anthing. This happend 2 years ago. |
