Looking for some ideas on tattoos, mainly a coverup. I have this tribal horse near my hip that I regret getting. Its very poorly done, lopsided and not proportioned correctly. I'd like to have a cover up and its fairly small (about 2" long), problem is that its black. I had toyed with the idea of having flowers done all the way up my side, wrapping from where this tattoo starts and then curving around my side and ending on by back by the bottoms of my ribs. In reality I probably will never have something done that big, and the flowers and greenery on them most likely would not hide the black. I guess I just want something prettier but needs to stay tasteful. Any ideas?

I'm not very good with tattoo ideas as I have wanted one for years but can never decide on what. But if it is any consolation I think your tattoo is cool looking! =)

First thing to do would be go to a shop and have an artist take a tracing of it. They'll use that tracing to try to incorporate the existing dark lines into your new design. Have a conversation with the artist about your ideas of what you'd like to cover it with.

I'm in the process of getting a cover up done on my foot. I had sweet peas that were just poorly done, and hated ever since they got done. It is being covered with a red chrysanthemum. So far I have six hours into it, with another two or so to go. I had to take a break on it when I found out I was pregnant. But now that baby is born, I'm hoping to finish it at Christmas time when we go down to California (where the artist is). Good luck!

I actually think your tattoo is cute. I have one that I'd like to get covered up, but I'm hestiant because I feel like I got it for a reason, so I go back and forth about it.

I would go to a reptuable shop in your area and ask someone who specializes in cover ups. Don't just find any tattoo artist. They can trace it out for you and give you some ideas.

Do you have any photos of yours? I love watching that show tattoo nightmares lol. Mine sure could be a lot worse, but its not a beautiful work of art I'd want to show off.

Oh mine is terrible. It's the Cobra emblem from a Ford Mustang. I got it when I was 16 years old, of course it's a tramp stamp. I have two other tattoos that I LOVE.

Oh yeah, it wouldn't be bad at all. It's so faded now. I just quit taking care of it years ago.

You'd be surprised what tattoo artists can cover up. My cousin owns his own shop here in MN and I've seen several before and after shots of his work and some of the tattoos before I would of thought you could of never covered up. I myself have a bunch of tattoos none of which are cover ups but I would say go speak with a tatto artist who is highly recommended. Take your time and come up with something you really love. Good luck.

cover ups are generally considerably larger, your lines are so dark you may have to go for a larger darkish design. have you considered getting laser treatments?

but if your committed to a cover up, i was kind of seeing something like ying yang koi fish running through the middle of the horses back where there is a break? there would be lots of shading between the two and the scaling of the fish and details of the leafy stuff and colors of the fish would distract from the tribal horse lines.

this can kind of give you a visual : https://www.google.com/search?q=yin+yang+koi+fish+tattoos&espv=2&tbm...

It honestly doesn't bother me enough that I would have is lasered off, I would just like it to be prettier. I thin if it had been done a bit better, it really would not bother me. Its just something I have been thinking about changing for years and still haven't done it, so who knows if I actually will. Theres a bunch of tattoo shops around us, but only one I have found that does coverups. http://www.hotrodtat2.com/galleries/graham/coverup
I definitely want to find an artist that has experience with coverups, not just doing tattoos. The fish are really cool, and would probably coverup something really well, but I'm not really into any sort of fish lol. I saw this one tattoo that was a tree and has some flowers incorporated, maybe the horse could be made into twisted roots of a tree. I really would have to have the tail end of the tattoo cover up the horse, I really don't want anything too centered over the horse or its going to be waay too low for me and I'm going to have to do some shaving lol!

I have some roses that take up about 1/3 of my back. They are black and gray and I LOVE them. Here are a couple of photos of them. These were taken on my wedding day.

I also have a star on my hip that I got when I was in Singapore for 3 months. I was at a reputable shop, but the outside lines didn't turn out like I wanted and now that I'm married, I feel like I'm marked by another guy from another lifetime and I want to get rid of it. It's about 3 or 4" by 3 or 4". I've thought about covering it up also but I've also just considered getting it removed. There is a reputable place about an hour from me that does laser tattoo removal: http://goodbyedye.com/

Thank you. I love my roses but I'm almost embarrased of the star on my hip and I'm more embarrased when people find out the story behind the star.

I'm a big fan of no color, only black and gray shading or I like tattoos with black and gray and a tiny bit of shaded color. Just a pop of color.

You will have to go back with something larger .... you need to go find a good tattoo artist that DOES covers up's not just tattoo's.... and look at his / her work ...

have an idea in your head and they should be able to draw something up for you ... then think about it for a
few days... it will prob. have to have color in it to bring your eye away from the dark lines.

I'm the same way, my boys have them and my oldest son's wife has them, almost all the younger people I know have them. I'm of course lots older and always asking my boys WHY and please dont get any more, but they get them any ways,lol... Just a different time and way of living. I dont understand why do that to your body. Saw an way older women then I am one day and she had tats on her shoulder and back,, welllll it was not pretty and I'm 56 and she had to be in her 60's..Like I said different times...
