Location: ND--it snows, it floods, it snows, it floods | Can someone please explain to me why her parents thought this was a good idea??? What would posses you to let your 9 year old child shoot a Uzi? And before anyone harps on me about guns and what not, I'm pro gun, have my concealed carry permit, hunt and target shoot for fun. But I have enough common sense to not allow a child into this situation.

Location: Somewhere in the middle of nowhere | I heard about this on the news this morning. I had the exact same question. I have not read the article and it may tell but why would a child (especially a 9 year old) need to shoot a weapon of that magnitude? |

| The instructor certainly should have known better. I wouldn't load more than one round for even an adult with no experience handling firearms. |

| I am not against guns, I am married to an AVID hunter. I am pretty certain he's even got a gun under our bed. I don't have any desire to shoot them but to each their own. That said, these are the stupidest parents on the planet! I read an article that said with a gun like this the harder you pull back on the trigger the more bullets it will spray and that our human nature when it starts kicking is to clamp down harder.... absolute stupidity on everyone's part. |

| I saw this on the news last night. I cannot understand why a young child was shooting a Uzi. Of course the recoil is strong. It's a automatic weapon. I am all for gun rights and the second ammendment but seriously what the hell |

The news story I heard this morning said that anyone under the age of 18 had to have parents present, and said that her parents were there.
I'm just curious what he was trying to prove by putting such a powerful weapon in the hands of a clearly inexperienced child that he KNEW wouldn't be able to handle the recoil. I've shot pistols before and even with the kick on some of those, I would NEVER let a child operate one.

Actually... The Uzi is only a 9mm so the recoil is not terrible..... But nothing to put in the hands of any 9 year old child even tho I have a friend that set his son up to shoot his first deer with a 30.30 at 6/yo and his daughter at 7/yo... They both made good kill shots.. I agree with the nomination for this year's Darwin Award.. |
