When I saddle my gelding and ride him around my saddle no matter how tight it is slides back. Which I've been told wasnt a bad thing. But when it slides back it sits way down hill and I feel like I'm going to fall forward. Should I try a different tree and what kind? My guy has a try before you buy option on most saddles but not all. I'm having a new saddle made regardless if I change trees or not but I want to make sure it fits. I'll try to attach pic but it usally doesn't let me.

Wouldn't let me attach a pic.

I would PM WimpyB and see if you can try one of her saddles.  My husbands pony horse was the same way and Meletas saddle fits him perfect, he can even go without a breastcollar if he wants to.  As hard as that horse gets used, any other saddle would have crippled him by now.

This guy has been making me custom saddles for years. He can put any kind of tree in it. I just don't know what kind. I get a new one about every 2yrs but that's because I work for him and that how he pays me is with saddles or what ever I need since I have a full time money paying job.

Without pictures of your horses back its hard to say what type of tree he needs. Sounds like your saddle may be too wide if its sliding back and going downhill. Good luck saddle fitting is frustrating!!!

So, he's a saddlemaker and can't fit saddles? confusing. If someone wants to build a house he should be qualified to do it properly. Not being snarky, just think he should be able to figure it out!

sound like it is too wide or doesnt have enough flare or twist in the tree

?  sorry this just doesnt make sense. a saddle should last a whole lot longer than 2 years. I would find a saddle fitter or talk woth wimpyb. someone that does this for a living and knows. Performance saddle company is great help from just different pictures and talking with you. but i would try your friends saddle that is running faster times with your horse even if the saddle is to big for you.  it is more about how it firts your horse

I don't know how long they last. I'm sure it's way longer than 2yrs since he gives them a life time warranty. I get a new one just because I want to and can.

A tree doesnt change. It lasts forever. I would recommend you find a name brand saddle NOT made by some random guy who calls himself a saddle maker.

There Frontier. I'm pretty sure that's a name brand. He makes my custom ones the way I want them. I've rode everything from a Caldwell to the cheap ProRider and a lot in between trying to find something I like. I like Mo's better than anything I've had.

Just going to say something here. Just because YOU like it better than anything else, doesn't make it fit your horse better. I have learned the hard way, that most saddles are all similar made as far as the tree (most companies all use the same tree maker), so you may have to find that one company that makes a tree that will fit that particular horse. I went 34 yrs without ever having a horse get white wither marks (because of my saddle) or buck and then this yr I got dumped twice ebcause of ill fitting saddles. And I used to start horses under saddle and we ranch and put long days on some. I am a believer that you can't be stuck on one brand of saddle, but it can be a real pain in the ARSE to find the one that you need. Good luck.

I am from AL and I've never heard of them.

I looked them up though.

JMHO, they look cheaply made. As in the materials used to build them, does not look as good of quality as I like my saddles to be made from. If you are having issues with saddle fit, I would contact a true name brand professional and seek their help in figuring out what your horse needs.

What does the horses back look like without the saddle, does he have any atrophy? Is his back flat?

Ask the saddle maker where he gets the trees from, then call the tree company and get their opinion.

This was after I rode him and got him into a light sweat to see what it looked like under the saddle.

It's hard to judge saddle fit by pictures. You'll need to stick your hand under there and check for even pressure, ect.

If your saddle is sliding back it dont fit, I had a custom Crown C that I had made for my gelding I was thinking he needed a wider gullet, and it would slide back every time I tryed it on him, I loved the saddle fit me to the Tee, but didnt fit him right at all so sold it. I have found a Double J that works really good for him and Love my Caldwell fits him nice and I feel really good in it, had to spend some money but was worth it, I think you need to look into a different brand of saddle since you're friend the saddle maker saddles are not working for your horse.
And the tree fitting your horse just depends on the angle of the bars, have your friend sit a few different trees on your horse and see how they fit. Why do you change out saddles every 2 years? Do you do it just because you can get a new one or cause they are not fitting right?
