We're picking up a yearling filly tomorrow morning that hasn't been wormed, received any veterinary care, been handled or eaten anything besides grass in the pasture since she was born.

What grain do you feed/recommend for a yearling??

I really like Woody's futurity blend, BUT regionally, I would think you can find a jr feed that has higher protein than regular feed, you should be able to feed less concentrate with more punch than some feeds (I used to feed COB and the futurity blend was so much less volume for their little stomachs) As with anything start slow, give them a couple weeks to get used to grain before packing it on them.

I like the ADM feeds.  That is what we use.  Whatever brand you go with, take it slow, give good hay.  I usually wait until they are home two weeks, then de-worm.  And then after that give shots.  Your vet would be a good source to help you.

Good luck, I love having babies around.

Definitely start slow. I have Nutrena feeds here. I like the Mare and Foal and their 14% Triumph. I might even give her a few days to adjust before worming her. Just depends on how she looks, how far she's traveling, etc. Don't push her too hard. Free choice good quality horse hay if she doesn't have access to good grass at your place.
