| I've been using SmartGut Ultra on my ulcer prone mare... who recently has started not finishing her food again. I have been out of town the past couple weeks and I noticed it as soon as I got back. She was given all the correct food and supplements but leaves some food at the bottom of her bucket. Has anyone had any luck out of Neighlox? Or would I be downgrading? What has worked best for you and your horses?  |

| Omeprazole from any source, i get the compunded kind after i gave him the real thing made a big difference. Preracehorse has a tube for about 30.00 that is 30days of the otc kind and 6 days of rx stength. My horse last accupressured for ulcers i gave some the first show i carried him to he looked tranquelized. He also stopped stall walking. He is so quiet now.

| Neighlox will not heal ulcers. If your trying to treat I would go with Digestive ULR. It's 60.00 for 65 days. |

| I treated her for 30 days with Gastrogard... ulcers were completely healed. This was back in March? I believe? I'm going to do another round gastrogard... I need to know what works best for maintenance.
Be careful with horseprerace.com's omeprazole.... or anything for that matter. I've heard horror stories with them. I bought some of the omeprazole myself and gave a few doses... didn't see ANY difference, where with gastrogard it was immediate. I threw away probably two and a half or three weeks worth of horseprerace's omeprazole. |

| I agree with barrelbasher. You need something better when you're hauling or doing stressful stuff. I've had good luck just keeping them on the 1/4 dose when I'm hauling, and a vet friend of mine said to run them on 60 ccs of Maalox. I also haul on probiotic paste, and I feel Forco has been a big factor as well.
Have you tried putting her on 7-10 days of probiotic paste? I had a mare recently that I swore up and down had ulcers. She had quit eating, got skinny, was nervous. Was reading ulcers like no ones business. Got her scoped. Not a single ulcer. Not one. So put her on 1/2 tube probiotic paste 2X a day. Within 3 days she was back eating all her feed. Within 5 she was cleaning up her alfalfa down to the last stem. I was amazed.
Just a thought. |

| I treat mine with ulcer cure OTC, I do it for a month, then I give mine the day before day of and day after.
I have been told it can take as little as 3 days for ulcers to develop.
My horses are also on pasture 24/7, and get low NSC feed, and a loose mineral without any filler.
It is also important for a horse to be pain free, as pain can cause ulcers. |

| GastroPLUS. Call me Tue and I will tell you why and show you the results from to studies. One from Santa Anita and the other one from Churhill Downs. It will show you the results compared to other products for ulcer including GastroGIARD.
It is a fraction of the cost and it WORKS!

| I have tried several products and they all usually help at first but then after a little time it doesn't work anymore - I tried succeed original granuals and within 10 days I seen a big difference in how my boy looked - hes been on it 4 months now and still eating ( licking his feed up) and that has never been the case with him- he looks great (he looked good before) I do feed good feed and alfalfa and other hay so he's not ever looked to bad but now he really really looks good and eats everything! I highly recommend it- its a little pricey but after you have tried everything that is suppose to work and you end back up at square 1,sometimes its worth the extra $ |

Location: Winging It in KY | I use NeighLox Advanced for mine. I did the treatment process with Ulcer Cure OTC then switched over to NeighLox Advanced for his maintenance. I usually give 1 scoop 2x day during the week and then 2 scoops 2x a day the day before I am headed to a show. It seems to work for him and I have not noticed any issues with him. He eats it without any problems. I just mix it in his feed. |

Then you must put on a preventive after that if you have an ulcer prone horse..I myself have had ulcers and my dr told me it takes 3 months to heal ulcers. I just went to a seminar put on by merial august 6th and they stated the same thing goes on with horses. So if your horse got better in 30 days and stopped your treatment then you have just thrown away time and money cause you will have to start all over again..so once you start dont stop for 90-120 days. i have a horse right now that is about to go into his 3rd month of treatment. Good luck! Oh and Yes i was treated with omeprizole and my horse is being treated with omeprizole w/ramitidine.

Sorry but you are wrong. To heal grade 3 ulcers (which is pretty severe) it takes 28 days of gastrogard. This has been scientifically proven by the fda and recommended by vets... |

Actually, YOU CAN HEAL ULCERS IN 30 DAYS, and I have the scoping images to prove it. Follow-up scope was on day 27 of treatment (with 1 tube daily of UlcerGard). So, you're wrong.
Oh, and it's Ranitidine.

Location: Got Lobsta? | My horse was just dx with Ulcers. I was so frustrated as I thought I was doing everything to help prevent them. He was getting Ultra Digest, and Ulcer Guard the day before the day of and the day after showing or hauling. He also is out 15 hours per day on pasture and only gets 1.5 pounds of grain. (no molasses) The vet said I was doing everything right, sometimes it "just happens". I was told to use Gastro Guard for 28 days and have him rescoped as the ulcer may not have healed because of the size. He has a large one in the hind gut and 3 small ones. At that point he may have to do another round but half of the dose. Than we will do the acupunture and possible scope again. He will go on Ulcer Guard but I will have him on it 2 days before the show (start 1 day sooner). We don't have Alfalfa up here so I purchased from the vet 2 bales of alfalfa hay and he gets one flake at night to help. In one week I saw a difference in him. I was told you could feed the over the counter preventatives and would have to feed 6x the amount to even make a difference. We switched to Smart Gut GI also. |
