| It's one thing that people misuse this in everyday life, but this is for a school function. |

I wondered if it was professionally printed or maybe the school did it 'in house'. |

Do you think it's a play on words? I'm not really following you. |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | IMO, that sign tells their story very well.
Kinda like the bulletin board display right beside the office/front door at my kids' school last Christmas that spelled shepherd as "shepard". I was there when the girls were putting it up and suggested that they proofread their work. 2 weeks later, I couldn't stand it any longer and pointed out the mistake to a teacher. They obviously weren't paying attention. |

That's what I was thinking but I can't find anything to support it... This school is only 5 blocks from where my mother lived and went to school and she may have attended this one. I'll have to check with my dad.. |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | . Here's the article about it: /http://www.westernjournalism.com/schools-prom-theme-reveals-pathetic-public-education-become/
I found the comments interesting because the picture used in the article is not representative of the school demographics.
I guess it's the difference in accents because the way I say "our", it rhymes with "shower"... it couldn't be confused with "are". LOL |

Location: In the Hills of Texas | Report: Illegal immigrant population in Illinois tops 500,000 A report by the left-wing Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights has concluded that the number of illegal aliens in Illinois is now at 511,000 -- about four percent of the total population. Other findings include: - 54% of illegal aliens live in the Chicago suburbs, in places such as Aurora, Bensenville, Cicero, Elgin, Hanover Park, Melrose Park and Waukegan. Only 10% live Downstate, with concentrations in Champaign, Kankakee and Winnebago counties and in the Metro East area.
- Half of the illegals speak English pretty well, 32% have “limited English proficiency” and 19% don’t speak English at all
- 29% live in poverty

I don't know, the way I say our it does sound very similar to "are", but I still know that they're different words with different meanings and I don't really know of anyone here that commonly misspells them. I do remember that in school, we spent a lot of time learning the difference between to/too, you're/your, their/they're/there, etc. I think somewhere along the line this has either become not important, or people use so many devices with spellcheck/autocorrect that they don't even notice the difference.

Same here... 'are' is not pronounced the same as 'our/hour'.... |

Location: Southeast Louisiana | Regardless of how it's pronounced, it should be spelled correctly. That is just sad. They should cancel the prom and make them all attend remedial English class instead. |
