We are looking at a new Ram, 6 speed, diesel, 4X4. Can anyone tell me what kind of fuel mileage you are getting with your new trucks, loaded and not. Thanks in advance!!

Dont forget it takes about 25,000 miles of HARD USE to really break in a cummins. DOnt be nice to it. You will get worse mileage at the beginning and it gets better over the first 40,000 or so. Work it hard, seat the rings. But all said and done with that configuration your looking at about 17 empty and 9-11 loaded depending on weight of load.

It also depends on what rear end you get.  My son has a 2014 3500 4x4 with the 410 gearing and gets about 11 empty and 9 loaded (Bloomer 4 horse).

My experience is..... is you want a sports car or a diesel, then you shouldn't be worried about gas mileage.

Yep, forgot about the rear gearing. I think all duallys have 410 gears. Automatics will get worse than sticks to.

I have the 2500 automatic, it gets 21-23 just running around and 9-12 pulling. The automatics have more horsepower and torque than the standards also, so that's something to consider.

We bought a 14, 3500, Longhorn cummins/automatic in july. Just drove the Alcan with a 09, 4 horse, trailswest with a mid tack and four foot shortwall. This is a steel trailer. 15.5 loaded and averages 20 unloaded currently has 13000 miles. we love this truck handles really nice and is comfortable over long distances.

Are these miles read off the idiot gage telling you what you are getting?
I just bought a 2007 with 130k miles on it. Took a trip about four hours away. Did the math when filling up. Idiot guage said 17. Math said 15 mpg. Next time I did the math, was .5 mpg off. Next time 1.5 mpg off.
Now if I would keep my foot off the accelerator with that powerful beast, probably improve a lot!

We have an 07 as well. We get 17 loaded and 21 unloaded. My husband drove professionally for over 25 yrs. He did the math. You do have to watch how fast you drive, makes a big difference, lol.

'13 3500 4x4 with a 3.73 rear end automatic with 25k . gets about 17 empty on interstate running 70 and 10-12 loaded (4h 13'lq). this is from what the truck says but when figuring it, I actually get about 1 mpg less than it says. absolutely love this truck and it feels like it could walk away with something much bigger than my trailer.

We had a 12, 3500 auto that we traded in for the 14. The 12 mpg was awful...15 unloaded we never actually hauled with it only had it a yr. The 14 has 50 more horsepower and a much better tranny.

dodge 3500's offer three sets of rear end ratios... 3.43, 3.73, and 4:10..not sure that I would want one with a 3.42 so make your own decision there...for example - found a nice 2wd 2010 dodge dually, had the specs ran and it had the 3.42's

Does anyone know what is in a high output dodge. I also heard but dont know you cant do a programmer ih the new ones. Imhave a 06 with 410 get 16/17 empty and with a 3 horse 14foot lq. going local at 60mph with 1 or 2 horse get 10/12 the slower i go the better milage. In interstate if i stay at 70 i get 10.5 get going with traffic i get9.7. But i have 410/ 5 inch exhaust, cold air intake, and programmer on economy. I will tell you with that programmer she will light those tires up if i want to i would be scqred i race mode, one the turbo spools up it will go. I can do about 75in a quarter in economy mode i dont know what governor is set at i dont have any reason to go past 75, diesel cost too much. I have several customer with duallys like mine i give them a ride in mine all they say is wow and smile.

My '07 3500 4x4 Dually with an automatic gets about 13-14 loaded, and about 18-20 unloaded.
It has 43,000 miles on it.

I just traded off my 2006 and bought a 2012 both are 6 speeds. I sure miss my 2006 with a 5.7. Not happy with the fuel mileage on this one yet...it only has 10k miles on it but I am only getting 12.5 miles per gallon pulling and 15 mpg empty. Hopefully it breaks in soon.
I don't like change and I don't like driving a new vehicle, I like something a little more broke in! But my husband said we needed to trade to get the most out of our other truck and it only had 130k miles on it. I was getting 17 pulling before with my 2006!!
