| Β Anyone paying attention to the insane amount if money it's going to take to make the NFR? It's crazy to see how many are over $100,000. The 15th hole would have been in the top 5 just a few years ago. |

Totally OT, but I loved, loved, loved your wife's interview on WPRA Today a few weeks ago! |

| Isn't there one rodeo left that pays around 30,000 to win it ? |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | I think it would be interesting to learn how many of the top 15 actually make much money after all the expenses for the entire year. I bet a lot of them spend over $100K if you really considered all expenses. |

If that's true, it's a heck of a way to make a living. Most of last year's top 15 made less than 50K at the NFR last year, and several earned in the $15-20K range. It's really a shame, in my opinion, for a popular American professional sport. I sure as heck wouldn't encourage my daughter to do it.
It sounds great to "chase the dream" or to be "living the dream" of making a run for the NFR, but the reality is something altogether different. |

You have to think though.. It's not like any of these girls only rodeo. Maybe some of the young girls but most of them sell/train horses and some of these horses sell for more than the average income in this country. Look at Fallon, she has a huge business that she runs on top of making 80 rodeos in a year. I think they all find something to help provide. |

Location: lone star state | Fred Whitfield does a great job explaining how much it costs to make the nfr in his book Gold Buckles Dont Lie. Its a great read. He also states that with the cost of living today its even tougher. For example the cost of a new truck today is at least 2 go round wins as opposed to 10 years ago when a new truck cost much less than today. To win a round had not changed much compared to the rising cost of living. That is one of the reasons the contestants were so upset with wrangler and las Vegas and the negotiations with prca late last year and earlier this year. Most contestants have other business ventures to help pay for their rodeo life. Many train horses and or sell them on the side as well as schools and clinics. They also compete in other events such as futurities and jackpots outside of prca wpra. The nfr is the best of the best and is glamorous. But I guarantee you the road getting there was not all glamour.
As for brittany I'm sure she has missed duke and the nfr this year but she has made some awesome young horses and won more than kaley bass who sits in 1st at this time.
I admire every one of them and the talented horses that got them there. What is most admirable is the grit to stick it out and come back after adversity as many of them have had this year. I can't wait for the first week of December! |

Location: OK | I think there are a handful of rodeos with >$10K, including 2 more champions challenges. I would love to know how much they spend (the ones who go to a few and the ones who go to 80) in a month--in gas, entry fees, feed, farrier etc. It has to be unreal!
With the talk of the top girls having businesses on the side--I've seen questions before but not really a clear answer--do their sponsors actually pay them in cash? Product? Pay their entry fees? I'm sure all of them are possible--but what's the norm?
It's been said before--it's pretty cool to see some new names in the top 15 (and top 20!!) Exciting to watch the next few weeks! |

I think the norm on sponsors is product and entry fees! That's what I see anyways.. The big names usually have the kind of sponsors that just product alone would take out a huge chunk of expenses. |

Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | I don't know if it's possible but I'm still rooting for Sara and Bling to make it. She was 22nd or 23rd last week but won one rodeo and got second at another this past weekend. She hasn't said about Pendalton yet. |

| Β Sarah is a very nice girl and I'd love to see her make it but she'd have to win $25,000 to get it done and that's with that 15th hole not really making anything. She will have to be fast and perfect from here on out to get it done. We were at Spanish Forks when she set a new arena record and that run was beautiful to watch. I don't doubt her and Bling have the ability. But it will be difficult to accomplish at this point in the season. |

| I think you have to consider how many rodeos each girl has entered. The fewer the rodeos the more earnings per run. |
