Location: Kansas | When leasing a broodmare, what is the expected price range? Farrier, vet, feed, hay etc....would be paid all my me, but what would I be expected to pay per month?
Just weighing options if it's cheaper to just buy a mare lol! |

Location: Kentucky | I did a free lease and it worked out really well. She was on my place, so I handled feed, vet care, farrier, etc. I did sign a contract and completed an AQHA lease form. |

| When I enquired about an embryo transfer, it was 1800 to lease the mare, a portion of that money was returned depending on the condition of the mare when she is returned. |

Location: Around here somewhere... | If you're looking for a recip mare you should be able to find one easy and cheap/free. Post on Facebook for one, doesn't have to be a "broodmare" since she doesn't need to be registered to be a recip. |

Location: Desert Land | Wow!! I have leased several broodmares and it was like a feed lease deal, I was responsible for her well being only - no monthly fee. On one lease I did I had an option to buy or return the mare back. If I was to return the mare, I would have to make arrangements for her to be bred locally (owner was 12 hrs away) to the owner's stallion choice, but at owner's expense. |

I was kind of hoping for a lease deal like that, but all the people I spoke with that have mares I was interested in....wanted quite a bit. And the mares weren't even bred that nice. I'm just about to give up!!!!! |

| I've decided that in the horse world there are just some crazy people! Unless the mare is super spectacular (in which case they would probably be doing embryos anyways) I can't imagine charging a lot of money for a broodmare lease. I think most would be happy to have the mare cared for for a year considering the cost of feed, vet, etc. Another option would be to return the mare in foal to a reasonably priced, agreed upon stallion. That would probably cost in the $2,000 or under range after vet expenses, nothing close to $500 a month!
However, if people are really getting $500 per month on broodmare leases sign me up, that might be the best money I'd make on broodmares!
Edited to say - I think what was mentioned about having the mare bred back with the owner paying for the stud fee is a better idea than paying for it yourself.

I'm going to have to agree with you there!!! LMBO!!! I have a girlfriend who is thinking of buying a firewater flit daughter, and is willing to sell me embroys at a really really decent price, but all I wanted was a nice little cowbred mare to breed to this spring and people want outrageous amounts for leasing LMBO!!!! |
