My young horse started getting board and a little hot on the pattern and really acted like he pure hated me. so I've just started playing with him doing different stuff. I unintentally taught him to do it with a treat I was making him flex side to side and in between his front legs and I noticed tonight it was a half bow. So I wanna teach him to do it on command. |

Location: Smack Dab in the Middle | I taught my mare to a long time ago...and subsequently taught my horse shoer to hate both the mare and me. It took a VERY...LONG...TIME before that mare quit trying to bow when a farrier would touch her left front leg. |

Location: Winging It in KY | I taught mine when he was young, yearling, to give him something else to think about. He had a very active mind and got bored really quick. By the time he was 2 YO he was taught to bow, count and lay down. We got the sitting once or twice but for some reason, that was not his favorite trick. |

I taught mine when he was young, yearling, to give him something else to think about. He had a very active mind and got bored really quick. By the time he was 2 YO he was taught to bow, count and lay down. We got the sitting once or twice but for some reason, that was not his favorite trick.Â
How did you teach him to count? That would be pretty neat. |

This was my experience too with my gelding in HS. I thought it was funny the first time my farrier went to grab his front left and the horse immediately went down. Farrier, not so much. I immediately worked on teaching him only to bow if you poked him in the left side instead of touching his front leg. |

Well, I would have to go back and review my Trick Training video to be exact. It has been almost 15 years since I did the training on him. Can't remember the training technique off the top of my head, can barely remember what I ate for breakfast. LOL! But if you want me to I can see if I can find the video over the weekend and post it for you.
That would be great if you can. I'm not joking he literally hated me so I've just started playing with him doing different on the ground things and he sorta likes me now. And our rides are way better. He does have the attention span of a goldfish though unless it involves treats. |

| No, but when he wants a treat he pretends like he is doing the stretch between his legs. It is so funny to watch him do this, he puts his head about 1/2 way down and looks at me out of the corner of his eye to see if I am watching and gives me a little nicker-- at which point I rush over with a treat- I think he has me trained :). |

Location: Central Montana | My sister's gelding can "kind of" do this with a treat. Unfortunately he is not the smartest and sometimes forgets to bend his knee when going after the treat and tries to do a faceplant in the dirt. |
