I'm pretty sure this is normal for some horses. My colt seems to get tender for a couple days after getting fresh shoes. Not to mention he was in a bedded stall last 2 years of his life. I went ahead and put some iodine on the sole. Anyone else have a horse like this?

Most of mine are good with their new shoes. I have one who I ride lightly the day of but then she is good to go the next day. Does your horse have thin soles?

Yep, I have one. Takes 2-3 days to be back to normal. Not so sore you can't ride but tender on hard surfaces.

If your farrier pairs out the sole too much it will cause this to happen every time
(could be what is happening
)...make sure that your farrier knows that each time the horse is shod that it gets sore...
A good farrier will be able to fix the problem; and it should not be happening each time that is not a normal thing
(even if the horse is kept in stalls their entire life
)

Thanks for the advice. Yep my farrier is awesome. What I meant was, my horse was at the track last 2 years of his life. Now he is with me on real dirt and hard ground.lol
