Regular Posts: 58 Location: Georgia	I have used a few different pads and had no problems. Most important is to have spinal clearance. I prefer my pad to have a 2-4 inch space down the spine to take pressure off. I base the thickness on the conformation of the horse. I have two horses with more thoroughbred conformation (high withered) so I find that I have to use a little thicker pad with them. I have used all of the following, a professionals choice work pad with canvas top, professionals choice smx air ride, weaver memory foam, and a classic equine esp pad. I would love to have a five star, everyone swears by them but at the moment it's not in the budget. I think a lot of it is just personal preference. I have a very old BM by circle y (just over 20 years actually). I use my choice of pad to customize the fit, this way I can make it fit most any horse. Regular Posts: 58 Location: Georgia	A treed saddle has bars to keep weight off of the horse's spine. The treeless doesn't. The padding of the BM is the same throughout. A good pad helps keep your weight off of the spine and distribute it better. It may not be necessary but it's what I was told about treeless and what I have always done.

They distribute the weight so you don't have all the weight in 1 spot. It just depends on the way the horse is build which one I use. I have both and love them both. The CSI is a bit thicker than the Saddleright but you can choose different sizes on the liner (I have the ½" one.)
