The guy I rode for is going to give me a weanling to play with and train. I had a weanling when I was young but I didn't do anything with her. My uncle have her to me for Christmas but he did all the work. So what's the do's and dont's of weanlings? What do weanling need to know? I know halter breaking and picking there feet up but other than that. Should a weanling be taught how to load? More than likely they will go on the be halter or western pleasure horses. Sometimes he will send them to a Reiner. Rarely does he have a barrel pattern put on them.

I would teach them to load and stand tied for short amounts of time.
Just remember weanlings have short attention spans.
Keep any "lessons" short and successful.  They can get frustrated quickly.
I used to work for a gal who raised 8 or 10 a year and typically we would put 4 or 5 in a sale in the fall.  I would fit them for sale.  So, we would work them for short times in the round pen, halter break them, let them stand tied for short times, groom them, wash them, clip them, mess with their feet.
