I don't think it is rude.  I contacted one through FB not too long ago.  It was a hard sell for the lady, she cried til she could barely breathe when we loaded him in the trailer.  We have owned him 6 or 7 years.  I happened to come across her on FB so I contacted her.  My daughter taught him poles and with just a few runs became a low 20 second pole horse and I always wondered if he already knew them.  I  sent her a messge and a video of him and told her how he was doing.  She was thrilled to see him happy and healthy and told me he had never done poles before.

I will be the first to admit how creepy I am when I purchase a horse I always do investigation on past owners or who the breeders were. Usually I start with Google search then if a business or barn does not come up I'll try to find them via Facebook. I am always very upfront and polite and have never been disappointed. It has led to some new connections, new friends, and I have learned so so much about the horses I purchased. They always seem happy to get an update so it's a win win. People like to know when animals are being taken care of well.

I was contacted probably 8 yrs after I sold a filly.  She was on her 2nd owner after me.  I was more than happy to talk to her and was glad she called.

I love hearing from people that have my horses. I was contacted a week ago by a lady that had picked one of the first one's that I bred from some match racer's and wanted to know about him. First off, I had been searching for him for a while, because I try very hard to keep up with them after I sell them, if for no other reason than to purchase them if they are in a bad situation. She wants to try him on the barrels and put some weight on him. She was kind enough to send me pictures of him and it really made my day. I asked her to give me first shot at him should she decide to sell him and I told her all about his dam, his race career, etc.....
I wouldn't hesitate to call a past owner.....

I love playing detective. Yes, I contact past owners. I always try to be respectful, let them know about my plans for the horse, etc. Always had a good reception.

I have been contacted by people looking to buy horses I have owned in the passed and I have contacted old owners as well.  I don't think it is creepy at all.

I know where all but two of the horses I have trained are at, and those two it just kills me not knowing.  I love following my horses and would welcome any phone call from any owner.  That's the best part about training and selling is getting the updates!

We have a gelding that we bought 4 years ago. I got the address of the original breeder and sent her a note wanting her to know he had a good home wanting more information about his dam.  No response.  A few years later when he started winning, I found her on Facebook and messaged her and again no response.  I would still like to hear from her, but no luck so far.

I often wonder about horses that we have sold (not many), but would love to hear about them.

I like to hear how horses we have sold are doing. I also have no problem contacting previous owners, most I have contacted seem to like to know how the horse is doing.

I contact previous owners all the time. I've also been contacted over the years about horses I've sold. There's three reasons why I think people go searching.. 1- they just want more info on their history 2- they want to share how good they are doing 3- they are having a problem and want insight.

I don't think it's creepy.

Thanks everyone, this horse has been around. I have owned her about 3 months, she seems to have no problems yet, but I have not ran her in barrels. Time will tell but she has a very gentle nature.
