| I know there are always people on here looking for supplements to help calm their horse down so I wanted to share my experience with lavender oil.
I have a nervous mare that I have been looking for a supplement to help calm her down for quite sometime. I did finally find a supplement that worked well on her but it was costing me about $50 a month and it had a 7 day withdrawal period.
My sister said while she was at the Barrels for Bailey in Las Vegas, she saw a lady rub lavender oil on a horse's nose and the horse went from a non thinking fire breather to standing there with her eyes half shut. I thought she was full of crapolla but thought I would try it. My husband has been roping on my mare while I recover from my brain surgery and although she is good at home, when we take her somewhere her brains fall out her ear hole. She gets very nervous and tense both waiting for her run and in the box and does funny things in the corner.
That stuff was amazing! It only worked for about 45 minutes at a time, so I did have to keep reapplying it but it took enough edge off that she could think, relax in the box and make the corner but was still firing hard and thinking. She would even stand in the crowd with her head down and relaxed. Hubby was able to rope all day on her without feeling like he was pushing her too much. In the 5 years of owning her we have never been able to start and end the day on her. She would be to hot about mid way and we would put her up for fear of her blowing up. She won her first team roping buckle on it! If anyone was on the fence with it, I highly recommend it. |

Location: Oklahoma | I have been known to sniff some on a cotton pad before... never thought about giving it to a horse! Very interesting, I'll have to look into it. I don't have a fire breathing dragon, but he does get nervous if he sees other fire breathing dragons in the alley/warm up area. I'm assuimg the oil in the same for human and animal use? |

| I put five or six drops in the palm of my hand rubbed them together and then rubbed it all over her nostrils, lips and muzzle. I also tried putting it on the inside of her bottom lip and that worked even better. |

| I don't know about cats. You must very careful with cats from what I have read. If you google lavender essential oil for cats, or something like that, you might find some good info. |

| There's a good chance it will. If you go to the websites of the oils listed, you'll see they will have oil blends for all kinds of metal/emotional stuff. I personally love Believe blend made by Young Living. It helped me a lot. |

Haha I'm a fan of certain essential oils too. I like lavendar because of its relaxing properties. It really helps to use lavendar bath salts for me to relax. I should try it on my horses too. Lavendar and Eucalyptus are a particular blend I like too. Peppermint oil is great for a brief tummy upset if one has no Tums or Prilosec. |

| My go to oil is frankincense, since using it I haven't had to use Advair or albuterol. |

Location: Oz, Kansas | I think I'm going to start spiking my daughters drink when we go to a barrel race. She gets so nervous & that makes her horse nervous. I've been looking for calming supplements for her but they aren't legal in Kansas yet. |
