Any suggestions for keeping a colt from laying near a gate and fence?  He's laying next to the gate/fence and when he goes to get up his legs are under the fence and gate and he's skinning them up while freeing himself.  He's always layed close to walls, fences, gates, etc but has gotten his legs caught under it twice.  The most recent time this morning required staples.

Our barn is a shedrow (can't close horses in stalls); stalls are 17'x20' with 100' runs attached.  It's a fully open stall with the 20' opening.

Can you somehow afix plywood to the bottom of the barn about 2 foot up, but make sure it touches the ground.. even dig a little trench and burry it a little.. so his legs can't go under.

I thought about the plywood, but thought if he gets his legs caught under that it will be less forgiving than the no climb horse wire that's currently there.  However I didn't think about digging a trench to put it in.  The only thing is that wouldn't help him getting under the gate.  *sigh*

All three of my foals did that this year. They would lay too close to the fence or stick their feet through it but since they were imprinted they would just lay there and wait for me to come free them. I would gather up their legs and just roll them over. So I'm not much help. My 2 yr old and yearling wait for me to get them unstuck too.
