Location: Somewhere here in Wisconsin! | Hello, I don't have an Arab or own one. It is just a hot topic that came up and I am now wondering everyone's opinion and experience with barrel racing Arabians. Not at a rodeo level or anything. Just like NBHA, local jackpots, 4D/5D formats. |

Location: Four Corners Colorado | My favorite girl is a Quarab we never won much but she sure was fun. If you don't care about winning the 1 -D it doesn't matter what you ride. Also ran barrels on a MFT, Arab, and pleny of -N horses!

Location: Cap'n Joan Rotgut.....alberta | i made the ammy finals on one when i was a junior....he was the best horse....i had another one that i ran at the track and he was a blast to pen on....so YES definantly......the one thing with arabs ppl either love them or hate them, doesn't seem to be an inbetween....lol

I agree! Love or Hate! I grew up with Arabs and we did everything on them, even had one who made his rounds as the "go to horse" for members who were horseless.....will always be my favourite breed! |

Arabs are extremely smart and extremely light. The majority of folks don't get along too well with horses that have those two qualities. They wind up frustrating the horse and they wind up over-cueing. A smart horse won't put up with a lot.
I have a "crazy" Arab that's so nuts he's leased out to a therapuetic riding facility riding kids around. He was so crazy that he was my best cow horse and I showed him Hunter too and started him on barrels.To top it off he was race bred to boot!
I trained Arabs full time for a few years. I took 3-4 year olds that barely led that had been turned out and turned them into show prospects in a couple months. Had an Arab stallion that was ridden by a 70 year old cancer patient pony me on a colt's first trail ride out by some mares and never had a problem. They came along a lot quicker than most other horses I've worked.
They may not be as fast from a take off but they don't have to slow down in their turns and they get faster further on in the pattern when a QH may be backing off. They're athletic , they have a huge heart and tons of try, and you have to earn their respect. They're not crazy. They just require a better horseman. |

I agree with this. I have an Arab/TH mare (looks more QH) that I started barrels and poles on. She made a few 18sec runs, mostly were low 19s. Such a fun horse to run. And poles??? She would just blow threw them. She won my buckles other prized along with money in smaller shows (like local NBHA). She is now my Drill Team horse. It really depends what you are wanting. Just for having fun on, and not wanting to win 1D, go for it.!!! |

Location: Midwest | IMO, They can make nice local level horses. ive ridden some, though not as barrel horses. They were just trail/English horses, but were nice movers and good minded.
Personally, I prefer the looks and feel of a stock horse type. |

| One of my horses is a morab and I run him barrels :) Doesn't do too bad. If think arabs and part arabs are fine for local stuff.

Location: Gainesville, TX | I'll be honest, I don't think you're going to see them at the top level but I've seen plenty that were fun for playdays and local stuff, mostly 3-4D though. I've seen some Quarab crosses that could do a bit more though. They were pretty turny. I'm not a particular fan as they can be a bit nervous, even compared to some barrel horses. I do know they are plenty smart though. They definitely learn fast. Bad and good about them, like anything. They do usually have fun personalities. |

Location: MD | I'm not running out and looking for an arab to buy. I board with a lady who has two. one is aged and is sweet as pie. You can do just about anything with her and she won't put up a fuss or a fight. If you were to BR on her, she'd get you back and forth across the timer, but probably not competitively. Another is 5/6 I'm not sure which. He is constantly racing around the pasture, when you turn him in to feed he is naughty as all heck. when you get on him it's either 100% or 0%. He can be so darn scatter brained at times. Granted he does have the athletic ability to do well, he is so neurotic that would never be a horse I would trust to push him as hard as I could. Both of them get rode every day, they are top notch WP horses and kudos to those that can handle that busy of a mind. I am certainly not one of them. I like my easy peasy QH. |

| I've got a reg. 1/2 arab. (the other 1/2 is QH).
Honest to goodness he is a cool horse. BROKE with buttons. flying changes, etc.
Runs a 21 sec pole pattern. No joke. loves the crap out of them.
Will run in the 2D if you hustle him against some pretty tough girls.
Will not spook at ANYTHING. He's cool.
I think they are never going to out run a QH but they can wrap a barrel pretty good. Obviously some full blooded arabs are hot, flighty, etc..but my 1/2 is awesome. |

I had an arab mare, the first horse I trained from the ground up, and was one hell of a show horse. well when I moved to Idaho not a lot of people in the area had Arabians, they all had quarters and rodeod. so I decided to run my dainty arab show horse and she KILLED IT! god bless her she was awesome |

| I wouldn't seek one out for my own personal use. However, Ive ridden some pretty awesome little arabs (3D / 21 Sec poles). Ive seen them make fabulous step up horses for kids. Ive personally ridden 2-3 on patterns for friends/clients and I had fun with them. I also rode many just putting time on them and they can be a bit sensitive but I wouldn't say any different than some quarter horses. They are so quick and agile that when they smoke, they can whip around on you quicker than I feel most QH can. I think that's where that misconception is. People call them spooky I think because of this. They're more responsive which I think is misconstrued. They tend to want to be a little front endy which I don't like but I wouldn't shy away from one for a kid/teen. |
