Location: Illinois | Thursday night in the town just down the road from me there was a Halloween parade, one of the biggest in the country. My husband and our three youngest kids were in attendance. Just before the parade was set to start a horrible tragedy struck. A van carrying 4 young children and their mother was struck by a freight train. Three of the children died instantly. 18 year old Alyssa, 10 year old Abby, and 13 year old Drake who was ejected from the van. 9 year old Dylan and his mom survived the initial crash and were life flighted to the hospital. The mom crystal unfortunately succumbed to her injuries Friday morning. 9 year old Dylan is still hospitalized and is expected to survive. There was one more son 14 year old Dalton who decided to stay home that night and fortunately is still here for his little brother. This all happened literally steps from where my family and I were standing and has impacted not only us but our entire community. I have attached the news story plus a link to a gofundme page the family has set up to pay for the 4 funerals and to take care of the two remaining children. There dad is no longer in their life. If you can donate to this family and shed a little bit of light on this horrible tragedy they would be so thankful.

Location: Martin,Tennessee | What I read was that she went around the Safety gates. If she would have just stopped and waited for the train to pass none of this would have happened. I have a brother and a husband that both work on trains and they see this all the time. People are just too impatient. We are need to learn to wait when we are at those kinds of things. You very rarely see or read about a person who lives when a train hits them. I may have offended some people and am sorry about that but that is just how I feel. |

This is not the place for your opinion. This was not a post to have people decide if it was her fault or not. This was to help the two remaining children who lost their entire family and to help bury their family. A public forum is not the place to bash a dead person. You absolutely did offend me and you are a horrible person. It hasn't been proven she went around the gates, she wasn't from this area and the train tracks are set up crazy and several people have gotten confused. Don't judge until you know. |

I got in touch with the family and they are getting an address for you. If you would like here is an email address to contact the organizer of the fund. She will need your name and the amount of the check.

Location: North Central Iowa Land of white frozen grass | Maybe what AZ brought up might save another family. It's a tragedy but I don't think she was blaming the mother just what caused it. I know your heart is hurting also. |

This is so sad what happen to this family, but maybe others will pay more attention. AZ2NCpaintgal you dont need to be going anywhere.. |

I agree, awareness is a good thing and does not mean there is no sympathy or desire to help the remaining children. |

Location: Illinois | I may have overreacted but what she said was offensive. If you have to say I'm sorry if I offended anyone at the end of your post you know you have said something offensive and you probably shouldn't be saying it. Just my opinion. But anyways, this post isn't about that it's about the kids and the family. Thank you to anyone who has donated. |

I agree......most vehicle vs. train accidents are because a person is impatient....her post only reminds us that we should be VERY careful and her post serves as a reminder that this could happen in a blink of an eye......Prayers for the family because, no matter, how or why they died, it is certainly a tragedy......

I agree with all of the above and was thinking just like AZ was. So many people are in such a big hurry to go nowhere. See it all the time when we go into San Antonio. Prayers for the family. |

Location: Nowhere Special | This is such a horribile tragedy and strikes so close to home for me. I work for the RR and we see stuff like this all the time. People hate to wait on the train and they chance it, most make it, but some don't.. I agree with what AZ said and if this post makes one more person sit and wait instead of running the gates then it could save the life of someone else. While it is a tragedy and I feel awful for those poor children it does need to be brought to peoples attention that something like this can be avoided, don't get in a hurry, don't run the gates just sit and wait even if it makes you late.. Everyone should also keep in mind how the crew of that train feels they will live with guilt from something like this for the rest of their lives even though there was nothing they could have done to avoid it. Prayers to all |

Location: SE Louisiana | Prayers for these two children. I think those gates might kill more people than they save. They leave room to maneuver around but it takes a lot more time than just shooting across the tracks without gates. |
