I know I have been asking a lot of weird questions lately, bare with. lol

So your looking at yearlings that have "good" (same) conformation, the same sire, same training- ect (bare with lol) BUT the dams are different.

Horse A) Dam is bred moderately well (performance) but has never done anything (just broodmare)

Horse B) Dam is bred moderately well (performance) but has never done anything but the dam's siblings have

Horse C) Dam is bred "OK" (horses that are out of nice horses) but HAS made something of herself (1D, proven performer-ect)

What Dam's side would you choose? I'm looking at young horses on the market and these are basically the 3 options I see. I know your not going to find a bunch of half siblings that look and act the EXACT same but what if?

Think I would go with horse C! She has proven to be a nice mare her self. Cross her with a nice proven stallion and your odds of getting a nice colt/filly are higher :)

The Dam's siblings? Or the yearlings siblings?

Do you know if any of those mares have produced any performing foals yet?

I would probably go with C unless one of the other options has babies on the ground winning already… then the mare's lack of show career isn't that big of a deal since you know she can produce winning offspring.

Quit focusing on pedigree/breeding..............look at conformation. If a horse has the best set of papers in the world but the worst conformation in the world......which one will get you further??

If you are looking at yearlings............the ideal situation is to watch them running in the field. Which one swaps leads the easiest? Which one can stop and roll-back the easiest?? Which one looks the smoothest to ride?? Which one has the willing, friendly temperament? Then if they are geldings, what difference do the bloodlines make, really in the big picture?

It is hard to find full siblings that are even the same..........there are always differences in temperament, conformation and size. Look at what is in front of you.
