Los Alamitos Cancels 2014 Edition of Grade 1 Champion of Champions
LOS ALAMITOS, CA— NOVEMBER 8, 2014— Los Alamitos Race Course has cancelled the 2014 Champion of Champions. The historic classic first run in 1972, has usually determined World Championship honors.
It was felt by track management that for several reasons this year’s edition of the race would not draw a representative field of horses from the nations leading quarter horse tracks.
Los Alamitos track owner, Ed Allred, stated that “the major quarter horse tracks and the American Quarter Horse Association need to standardize and enforce regulations prohibiting clenbuterol and its analogues”.
The Z Wayne Griffin Directors Trials will not be run, but a $50,000 Z Wayne Griffin Invitational for 3 year olds and up at 400 yards will be carded on Sunday, November 16, 2014.
On December 13, 2014, the date of the cancelled Champion of Champions, a $100,000 added Christmas Invitational will be featured at 400 yards for 3 year olds and up.
Los Alamitos Race Course will resume the Champion of Champions in 2015 with a purse of at least $600,000.

Location: Vinton, La. | I'm so disappointed by some of the remarks made on my FB page, as well as a good friends page against what Doc is doing. Either you want this industry cleaned up or you don't. Some of the comments I've read are such double standards. Just leaves me scratching my head and saying wow. |

Location: South Texas | It is a start but AQHA needs to step up to the plate and get something done. A start would be not allowing all these trainers that are supposed to be suspended to continue conducting business as usual just because they filed an appeal......regardless of different state racing commissions if AQHA would not sanction races at tracks that allow them to run the tracks would not give them stalls period and people would take this crap serious. Same for medicine guidelines AQHA needs to establish guidelines nationwide. Abide by them or races are not sanctioned on that track period.....AQHA is currently operating like our govt.....leading from behind...
Just like criminal law once you are found guilty and get sentenced you do the time.....you can file an appeal and if you win fine but in the mean time you do the time......currently AQHA says these suspended trainers can continue to rule the tracks in the state of LA due to Napoleonic Law......but guess what AQHA if you refused to sanction the races on those tracks the trainers would be ruled off in a heartbeat....jmo

I heard Allred ordered hair testing to be done on all the qualifiers and extra possible horses to the finals. I wonder when the results will be published about all the testing. Or did Allred not find any clean horses? When Paul Jones was qualifying so many horses, why was there not any suspicion? |

Location: NE Texas | Because this trainer came from nowhere basically and the majority of his horses were previously in with a trainer who is currently serving a suspension for multiple clenbuterol positives. Los Al is a no tolerance track....the normal 72 hour pull off is still illegal there. Good for Allred and I agree that aqha needs to step it up as well as other states racing commissions! At least its a step in the right direction and progress.

actually that guy has been around for awhile... he had a mare that i claimed back in 07.... not saying that he isnt working as a paper trainer.....
so is alred going to let those tbs run on clenbuterol?
im all for cleaning up races but when the crhb's rules are different than aqha and los al's rules are different than theres..... then your saying a 6 months clean???.... clenbuterol has a 7h half life after its peak... and california is a 30 day pull off as far as i know...
just seems like a cluster F@@@ that could have waited till january to start lol...
and i really want to see the list for the derby lol... |

I looked up his name Elroy Navarro. He has been around for awhile and he has actually had decent percentages. I just don't think he had the big horse power for the big races. |
