Location: Oklahoma | My gelding is kept in a "stall" that's probably 40'X40' and covered. The sides are not competely blocked from wind, but he will stay dry no matter what the weather is. He is not getting rode (except for 10 minutes/day of walking if the weather is nice. He won't be breaking a sweat.). He's grown the nicest winter coat I've seen on a horse in a long time, but I don't want him to get cold if the weather really gets bad. He's not underweight, but he doesn't have any extra fat on him. He's getting about a pound of Renew Gold a day and on a bale of grass hay. Does he need a blanket? If so, please give me some suggestions on what kinda warmth factors I need to look for. |

| If he's out of the wind and has hay in front of him at all times I wouldn't bother with it, especially if he's not getting rode. |

Location: Oklahoma | I personally love weatherbeetas. You could get away with a 220g fill which is a medium weight. Anything heavier than 250g fill is considered heavy fill. I have my one 220g weatherbeeta that is 4 years old and still works great. I did buy a new blanket this year that is 360g fill with a removable neck cover. He will wear that tonight. Here's a picture of my blanket... it's a little more faded now, but still works/looks great.

Location: Oklahoma | Thank you! I will look into getting a medium weight for him. I just wish all of the sides of the building were blocked, but they're not. I don't blanket any of my other horses, but they've got plenty of fat on them. This guy just can't get overweight and that's what scares me. |

Location: Oklahoma | My personal rule of thumb... if it doesn't get warmer than 40, mine wears his blanket all day. He does have a winter coat, but I like to keep it somewhat manageable so if I feel like riding, I'm not spending an hour cooling him out. |

Thanks! I'll have to remember that if I get to ride next winter. I walked down to the barn this morning and I was thinking "omg. there is no way I could be motivated to ride in this weather!!!" I'm a wimp. I froze in Alaska in late May because going from high 90s to high 50s killed me. |

lol... I don't ride much..... but if I do, I want a shorter coat. He doesn't hair up as much as my girls do. But he also spent years in San Diego with me, so he got spoiled. |

Okay... so would I need a stable blanket or turnout blanket in the Big D/Weatherbeeta? I don't really need the waterproof factor, but I guess I might as well go ahead and get it since he's only stalled for his injury and not how he is normally stalled and I won't be limited to that next winter. |

Location: Henryetta, OK | Go to www.sstack.com I truly love their blankets. Make sure the denier is more that 420. 420 snags to easy and rips. Mine are 680 denier. Study but not too heavy. I also like a stable blanket better than a turnout but have both.

Location: Oklahoma | even if you don't "need" waterproof, go turnout blanket.... stable blankets are a lesser denier and will rip easier. I also won't get anything less than 1200 denier just so it holds up better... I'm off to the show... feel free to text me... 405-492-0261 |

| I would get a Weatherbeeta, no less than 1200 denier. I think they are the best blanket for your bucks. |

Location: At the race track with Ah Dee Ohs | Our horses (in training) stay in stalls. I don't normally blanket, but if I do it's just a stable sheet mostly to help keep them clean. I still have slick horses so they may get a tad chilly tonight in the 20 degree weather. Barn is completley shut up, with no wind that can get to them. |

Location: Oklahoma | Thanks everyone. I wound up buying a 1200D weatherbeeta with neck attachment! I knew I needed to have one when I went down to see him on my lunch break and realized he doesn't get much sunlight... So I really feel bad! |

Let's hope!! I bought the one with the neck attachment... he'll either love me or hate me for it, but that combined with his BOTs on all four legs (at night) ought to keep him feeling cozy. lol |
