I have a big german shorthair, lab mix that was blessed with a short coat and the poor guy is cold all the time!  He spends the cold days inside, but there are times he needs to spend some time outside when we are gone.  He has a nice dog house but am looking for a tough, warm jacket for him.  Maybe a mini horse blanket would work??  I know some about denier (the higher the better) but is there some jackets that stay put better??

my dogs live outside. The heeler loves it, and doens't need anything. She has an igloo to get out of the wind. The terrier gets cold easily although he has a doggie house too. So I got him one of these 4 years ago. And it is still going strong. It is waterproof, just like the horse blankets, and it keeps the wind of off him.

I am a huge fan of the Weatherbetta dog blankets
Valley vet carries them.  They run about $35  1200Denier and are TOUGH
I have used them for years and they hold up to abuse.  And they don't MOVE!  He was in and out of the mule jumping on top of hay pile  wresting with the rottie and it didn't move
My catahoula/bulldog just got his new one yesterday and he was so happy as he has been so cold

I have a six month old blood old and before I got her a jacket she was miserable. I bought the same jacket from valley vet and they had the color to match my ponies too:

Awesome thanks everyone!  I know I need something that will stand up to some barb wire crawling :)

Now, I just need to measure the beast, he's such a wimp he doesn't even want to go out to pee in the morning, have to make him.

I have neoprene ones that I use on my duck dogs when the weather is brutal.... Don't know why it would not work on dry land.

I have weatherbeeta jackets too, including a fleece one I put underneath for extra warmth (: They have a heat lamp to sleep under too (they're in the garage).

I've got an English Bull dog and I'm worried about how it'll fit. They are poorly made dogs, poor things, are the straps elastic? Because he is wider than he is long in the shoulders, short to the ground, and no neck. If I get a small will the strap fit around his chest?

The front strap on mine are straps with velcro, and the belly straps are adjustable like the belly strap on horse blanket with velcro at the end. I can get a pic when I get home so you can see.

Yes!  Love the Weatherbeeta dog coats as well!  I wish I had a picture of Piglet in his - it's purple and says "It Wasn't Me!" all over the entire coat.  Very cute.  I've gone through a TON this year - it seems like every year more and more people start buying coats for their dogs  (ps, ours are a little cheaper than the big guys
