Sometimes, you have to whack the guy over the head because being sweet and submissive doesn't do the trick.
I've been married for 14 years and every Christmas is always the same.  He gets gifts from me but I get last minute stuff you find at the gas station because even though the house is decorated, there is a six foot tree, the street lamps have garland and our music station is playing carols, he had no idea the holidays was upon him.
I can' t take another year of "I'll make it up to you, babe."  So, this year, I sat him down.
"Have you noticed what time of the year it is?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Well, I just thought I'd mention that Christmas is going to be here before you know it and you should be prepared."
"What do you want me to fix this time?"
"Just make sure you go shopping so you don't feel bad on Christmas."
"Oh, yeah. I do, do that.  You might want to remind me later."
"How about I paint something on my forehead?"
Okay..so cool.  I did my part and reminded him again and he knows that this year he's going to get good stuff because now I'm his sugar mama.
Well, I'll be damned...I caught him.  I caught him buying me something early.  I haven't gotten him anything yet.  You folks better remind me not to forget about him.  LOL....

So...when it comes to Christmas do you and your spouse exchange gifts?

I have a good husband.  So, this year I have already shopped for him.  He has gotten ostrich Lucchesse boots, Calvin Allen chaps, Carhart coat and two hat racks - one for each pickup.

Now, I will be waiting on my goods.

We do exchange gifts, and he badgers me about making a list of wants.  I have a hard time letting myself want stuff, especially when I'm focused on the large number of people we have to buy for.

Last year I gave him new Caiman boots ... this year its a gorgeous drawing from our own Sara of his first/best/favorite Border Collie ... I hope I catch him getting me something great too!

Guilt.  I hate that.  I do that too.  I can't stand to see anyone disappointed.

yes, and i painfully scour my brain what to get him (he always says "nothing" "whatever" blah blah when i ask him what the wants). I always get extra large sweaters/jackets whatever from tractor supply (i wear a SMALL) because he literally waits until christmas eve to go get my stuff. It kind of hurts my feelings - i put a ton of effort into his gifts and he just grabs whats left at tractor supply?

We  definately need a support group for this problem.

My husband isn't the kind of guy to get me anything on Valentine's Day, anniversary.... but he makes up for it on my birthday and Christmas!!  Last year he waited until the 23rd to get my gift at the mall (williams sonoma and he said it was miserable. lol!)..... I hope he learned his lesson, but I know it's easier for him to wait until the last minute because I will spend every second I'm awake for the last two weeks begging for hints.... It's a fun game we've played with each other for years (actually, it's probably more fun for me than him....).

I'm not sure what I'm getting him this year.... we usually go to Bass Pro and shop for some other people and I can always find something he really wants but won't spend the money on.  I need to get him to Bass Pro!!!

Lol, yes we do exchange gifts.
And he pulls the same thing every year.... "I don't need anything....... I don't want anything............ what ever you get me is great............. I have you...." and them some.... So I keep hounding him for a wishlist... Heck, I even send him my list through Amazon. But still he doesn't know....
I do get great stuff from hom, so no complaints there. It's just like pulling teeth to get a list ready for him....
On top of that.... we really have everything we need (except a tractor, but that is a project we are both working on) so it gets harder and harder to find something.

FACTS
*My birthday is the 22nd of December.
*I hate malls any time. Especially the holidays.
*Christmas isn't my favorite time because of how "commercialized" it has become.

STORY
2 years ago.....

my sweet honey suggested we go Christmas shopping at the mall... On the 22nd......

Can you guess how that went?

HE FORGOT IT WAS MY BIRTHDAY! Needless to say I spent my day at the barn. Among my horses. Alone.

I normally get him something big. It was a new handgun one year, a super nice felt hat, Tony Llama boots another.
I doubt Ill be able to get him much this year. We put out close to $700 worth of seed and fertilizer on the pastures last month. I told him Merry Christmas.
I don't care for Christmas presents. Think about me all year and not just on one day. I am strange but I don't really want anything for Christmas. If I need it during the year, I buy it.

My husband always wants to get me something I like, BUT he doesn't know how to find or order things online and we don't have any good tack stores around.  So he always wants me to order it online......   I like surprises and this kinda ruins it for me, I want him to take hints and do a little work himself to get it.
He is great for hinting at what he wants.  but much like a child for like up to two months before Christmas and his birthday he is like (I would really like this, oh this is what I want, I really need one of these, forget what I said before I want this, etc.....)   drives me crazy especially if I have already gotten him something and then he tells me 'forget what I said, this is what I really want'....

I love how you laid that out. And yes, my daughter shares a birthday close to you and she suffers the same thing.

Hubby has always gotten me amazing Christmas gifts. This year is the best by far.... luckily, I didn't have to wait until Christmas. Last week he bought me a 4 year old gelding. I'm jazzed with him.

And hubby just bought a 2015 dually GMC one ton. So I'm hoping that counts as Christmas???

Either way, Christmas is about spending our time together. We used to have to split holidays between his family and mine. We have decided (as of last year) that Thanksgiving and Christmas is at our home. Anyone can come. But that's where we will be.

Ha, didn't think about that! That should work good too!
I do email him some random stuff, but they end up in the big pile, so this would probably be easier for him.
