They are usually,  very user friendly and you can see kids to seniors riding them.

They have their own style of running that I call swooping around a barrel.

Mine is anything but hot.  He's got the best disposition.   He tried his heart out every run.  Anyone could ride him, and he's a stud.   His babies are all the same way.  Fire Water Flit was a very prepotent sire!

I have rode quite a few of them over many years and I currently own 2 grand get of FWF. All of the ones I have seen and ridden have been super easy to train to run barrels. They make you look like a "super" trainer because they just naturally want to go turn a barrel. You show them and they have "got it". Most tend to have a butt dragging style, really getting on their hind end. Depending on the crosses, some may be a little hot but I have not seen one be an idiot yet. Of course, some people could make ANYTHING into an idiot. Overall, I like their minds, their try, and their athletic ability.

I have a grand get (right ?), he is sweet, eager, wants to please.  He is a 5 year old, broke as a 3 year old then basically turned out.  I have owned him 2 months and does not matter if you ride him daily or once in 2 weeks, no buck  and just wants to please.  I had him for  a few days trying him, knew he had not been handled in a while but saddled him up and took him through obstacles- tarp on the ground, noodles hanging down, a few jumps, I wanted to see how he handled new things.  He acted like he did them everyday.

I really like their minds. They are born to be barrel horses/timed event horses.  I think if you're someone that needs to be rough on a horse, you don't need a FWF bred.  They will take it but it hurts their feelings. I've bought 2 daughters of FWF that were somehow abused and were very flighty until they realized I wasn't going to go after them.  I can only guess what caused this behavior. They are put on the planet to try to make us happy.

ETA: The grandget I've had by HAB have been EXCEPTIONAL minded. They aren't flighty. They are calm, quiet, smart, wise (old souls) and very accommodating when asked to do something. I can't get enough of them.

I agree with being born with the brake pedal being down. I have started and ridden several grand get of FWF and they all have loved to stop.  They have all ridden out really nicely. Easy to train, want to do the right thing. Easy on the eyes, athletic good movers. Just really nice horses.
