So I've been looking to buy a few saddle pads for the past month & still can't choose what I want. I've narrowed it down to either CSI, Bayou West, or 5 Star. I've noticed everyone on here loves the 5 Star but I'm just not sure. I thought CSI was the hot ticket a few years ago. So if anybody wants to add any pics or any input on what you think the best of the 3 is, that would be great. Thanks

you can get a just as nice 100% wool pad from Diamond wool co, but spend a whole lot less.
Amazed at how well adervitizing will make some one pay 2 time's as much for the same thing

Diamond wool pads are not the same processing nor are they 100% wool.

Unless they have changed in the past few years diamond wool are crap IMO.

To the op it all depends on what your goals are for the pad.

If you have a perfect fitting saddle, a 5 star may be the answer.

If you ride multiple horses and saddles don't quite fit perfectly (little too big, tipping down on front end, etc) a csi pad may be the way to go. I use csi with my crown c saddles and I don't have to shim nearly as much with the csi as compared to other pads.

Csi will also conform to the shape of the horse, this is a big selling point for 5 star pads, but I find my wades also conform too.

If you want similar quality of the 5 stars but don't want the price tag Ed Wright sells a pad manufactured by the same company.

My preference CSI all the way

I agree with Diamond wool pads, they stand up to every day riding and your not going to break the bank. They have a lot of options, we have everyday work pads that are 8-9 years old and are still in great shape.

I sure like my Diamond Wool pad and have had it and a "stock or ranch pad" for years. Jeffers carries them and I bought the contour pad. It comes in a 30 inch and a 32 inch. Mine is a 32 inch and to me it is a little big. I won a five star and it is OK but do not think they are worth the price. I have won several Tod Slones and they are my favorite.

Diamond Wool pads are not "bad" pads, but to understand why the difference in pricing, one needs to know the composition of the different pads.  (as in someone mentioning above that the higher priced ones are because of advertising, etc)   Diamond Wool pads are not 100% wool, nor are they "pressed felted" - they are needled.  Bayou West are pressed felted, but they - like Slones, Wrights, some of the Best Evers, etc are percentages of virgin wool, reworked wool & "other" fibers, which can be polyester, cotton, wool, you name it.  They are rated at F15.  The 5 Star is the only one that has 100% virgin wool, are pressn felted & have the highest compression/concussion rating.  They are rated at F9, F10 & were F11's but are now better than that.  To explain more, this article is very lengthy, but some very good reading: http://www.5starequineproducts.com/research-articles/saddle-pad-research/    If I can help you with 5 Stars, please feel free to contact me.  We are running our Christmas sale now too, plus since 5 STar made us their official BHW dealer, we also give a discount for that too.
