Location: South of Canada and North of Mexico | Ive had gray hair since I was 13, not a lot but thats when it started, Im now 33 and have quite a bit. It took forever to grow my hair out, its mid back length, I dye my hair dark and all my roots are more or less gray, I wouldnt mind going straight gray but worried once I grow it out I'll be tired of it and want to dye it, not to mention looking weird for years. What have you done? I dont really think I want to get my hair done every 4 weeks to cover roots.. agh.

Location: NC | My mom dyed her hair for years to cover the gray. She is getting tired of it so she uses the semi permanent dyes now. that way it hides the roots but eventually will fade out and once all the permanently dyed hair is grown out she can stop using them and let it fade to her natural gray... Hope that makes sense.

Location: Texas | I have had gray hair in the front since I was 25; now I am 62. I have never done anything to my hair other than perm it. My hair is light brown and I get so many compliments on my "highlights", although none of them came from a bottle. It is also baby fine.
When I wore it long and would braid it, I always had a light streak running though the braid. I cut it really short 4 years ago and have now decided to grow it back out.
If you have pretty hair, wear it natural. So many women color their gray and do not keep up with the roots. If nothing else, just put some low lights in it.

I am trying to decide whether to get my shoulder length hair cut short to let it grow out or as some suggested going blond and let the gray blend in until I can get it all gray. I love gray hair and really wish I had not started coloring mine years ago. |

Trust me... having blond hair does NOT blend or hide the gray (at least not for me)!
I was born with blond hair and it was great until I hit 40. Then my roots started coming in dark. So I started coloring the roots to blend with the rest of my blond hair. Now the roots are coming in dark & gray. Still have to color them to hide/blend with the blond. UGH... I'm tempted to just let it be, stop fighting the color and let it grow out, but I'm afraid it's going to be an ugly, dirty dishwater color. |

Thank you so much for telling me this. I have had my hair cut in a bob before - I may just get a short bob and let it grow out. I am thinking since the back is stacked and shorter than the front with a bob at least most of my gray hair will start to show faster - either that or wear a do-rag for a year or so. :) |

Location: Alabama | I have medium brown hair & did the sun-in thing one time. While it was growing out, I used the temp color that washes out daily. It's in a gray bottle with pink writing (can buy at Walmart). Each morning, I just squirted a little on & combed it through. Of course, the longer it got, the more it took. When it got down to my shoulders, I cut it off.
I also use the "silver" of this same product on my grey mare's tail to cover the yellow if we are going anywhere.

My hair is light brown and I have alot of natural blonde highlights, so maybe it won't be super noticeable for a while. The problem I have is my little greys are super wirey and seem to have a mind of their own! They aren't they texture of my normal hair it doesn't appear. No telling what I might be looking like in a few years.....good thing I like ball caps!  |

| I am 51 and have had to color my hair for more than 10 years; I was told once that it is "un ladylike" to go grey; and as a true Southern Women I am sticking to this; every 4 weeks to the day I have my grey covered up; BUT it also depends on the type of hair you have if you have baby fine hair then the grey looks nice; my hair is very thick and as coarse as my horse's tail so it would not look good to be grey! |

I'm in the same boat exactly! I thought I was the only freak. I go to the salon every couple months. I should go more often but I try to rock the roots for a while to spread it out. |

Location: Magnolia, Texas | I've had gray hair since I was a teenager, about 4 months ago I decided to quit coloring and let it go gray. Up until then I was coloring a medium/dark brown. I didn't want to mess with semi perm coloring - just tired of coloring altogther. I had my hair bleached to remove all the brown color then colored it back with a platnium color, now as the gray grows out it looks totally cool. It was about a 4 hour process and I wouldn't let someone do it that doesn't know what they are doing. I love it, I don't do anything but wash it with Shimering Lights shampoo 2 times a week, all the other days I just use my regular shampoo.
My gray is a very white/silver gray, when all the platnium is gone, I will add in some super super thin black streaks just for effect.

I had some hair fall out in the front last spring because I burned my scalp trying to cheat on my roots (I have highlights but haven't had them done since July 2013) and a few of the hairs that grew back are freakin GRAY. turning40sucks And they stick straight up. And they are kinky. Dear Lord. I need to get my hair cut and highlights re-done, but my friend that was doing my hair is going to make fun of me, so I keep putting it off. |

Location: Texas | My hair was dark brown and when I started graying, I used the demi color from Sally's. Although it was supposed to be a semi-permanent, it did not wash out as promised. I would use the demi-color on just the roots and I would used the lightest brown or the darkest blond to keep it from making my hair black. I don't think highlights look good in hair as dark as mine, but I decided a year ago since most of the gray was in the front and on the top (the back of my head has very little gray) that I would frost my hair. It did not highlight very light, it was kind of yellow, because I had colored my hair for so long. The second time she did the highlights with foil instead of the frosting cap to keep it from getting too light. When it grew out again, instead of highlighting, I went back to the demi color in the lightest brown. When that grew out, I started using the tinted mouse available at Sally's in a dark brown. It gave my hair some texture and kind of blended the gray. All of the color has grown off now and I kind of like the natural gray. Sometimes I still use the colored mouse and it kind of blends the gray to a lighter brown. The colored mouse could even be used to hide the new growth as you color grows out. It comes in all shades.
