Location: MD | So, I've only had geldings. I have never seen one be able to become fully erect and have total control over it. But he sure can, and does frequently, and it kinda is weirding me out. Is this normal for them to have this much control over their man business? |

| Sorry but I had to laugh.... BUT yes MOST of the geldings I've had will get it hard and thump it against their belly... I think is perfectly normal...
EVEN ones I've had gelded under the age of 1 have been known to do this. |

Location: MD | I've had geldings all my life and have never seen one do this! And this horse has a new mare in the pasture, they are pretty exclusive ;), he is all hot and bothered for her and has been doing it constantly.  |

| My Geldings have never mounted the mares... BUT these days I don't keep mares because I share a fence line with dumb people that keep a stud just across the fence. I can't afford to fence HIM out so I don't keep mares. |

Location: South Central Florida | We have only 1 gelding, and he has always done it. He never acts studish at all otherwise, but while out in the pasture, he will "get busy" by himself on a regular basis. He is 25 now, and I have not seen it in a while :) but never worried about it. He never mounted any mares and that's all he ever lived with, and he never fought with geldings that we hauled with. |

no he isn't, she'll tease and then when he goes for the try she'll barrel kick him. She's pretty serious about not letting him, hence the reason I'm not worried about separating them. He's got some pretty big ole welts, bites, and kick marks on him! |

I have had geldings my whole life and never once has one of them played with them self! When they pee they let it out but that's about it.
This is what my experience has been too! I've had nothing but geldings and haven't ever seen anyone drop like that except when eliminating and being sedated! It's very uncomfortable when you have two little kids asking what he's doing!  |

Use it as a teaching tool... One time I had no babysitter and my boys 4 and 6 had to ride with me to get my mare bred. I told them to stay in the barn... OF course they didn't. I didn't know this right away... I heard them arguing about something.... And what I heard was my younger son telling my older son that "the boy horse put his pee pee in the girl horses butt" When I got done laughing We had an anatomy lesson where I explained it too them that the girl horse has 2 holes back there... Then we had to go look.... |

LMAO I had a gelding that did that, but only with me. He would try to intimidate my boyfriends and then my husband with studdy behavior. It was funny. When I sold him, he fell in love with his new girl instantly when she came to try him and was the same way with her. She said he still hates her husband several years later.
I've had several that liked to pleasure themselves. One would try to mount other geldings, but never a mare. |
