Location: Displaced Iowegian | I will preface this by saying that my hubby is a voracious reader and I am getting tired of paperback books laying around the house. I am thinking of buying an "electronic device" of some sort to download ebooks, borrow books from the library, etc..... What do you have? What all can you do with your Kindles? Buy just a reader like the Kindle "paperwhite" or would he be happier with a Kindle Fire? What would you all recommend??????? Do you have to have wi-fi? I am on cable internet but can buy a wi-fi router if needed. |

Location: NC | I have a kindle paperwhite. You can only really read on it. You can go on internet but its a pain. But if i want to see something on internet i usually have smart phone or laptop around. I love mine. You need to be connected to wifi to download books but once they are loaded you can read them anywhere. I actually rent books thru the library's website. (i do buy them from amazon as well but renting is cheaper as long as they have it.)
We donated 3 plastic boxes of paperbacks to the library so wanted something that was easier. I still read paperbacks though if i want to remember an old book or something. |

Location: between here and there | I don't have one (yet) but I talked to a friend of mine that reads all the time. She just got the Kindle paperwhite and she loves it. It has the light on the screen which she says really helps if you read in bed or not wanting to turn on another light. I saw them on Amazon for 120, I believe. Sorry, that's all I have to offer! |

Location: Lost in the corn of Iowa. | I have a Kindle Fire. You don't have to be on Wi-Fi to read books you've already downloaded. I like the fire with the exception that it doesn't support some Android apps, like YouTube or Google. But if he is primarily reading then a Kindle would be great. I read all the time and I love the fact that I don't have a million books. There is a Kindle lending library that you can borrow books from the library for free, and there are a lot of books that are free to download as well. |

I just looked this morning and the Kindle Paperwhite was on sale for $99 on Amazon. |

Location: MN | I have an iPad and LOVE IT!!! I read a lot sometimes 3 books a week. My iPad is wifi only but once you down load the book you can read it anywhere. I have no problem reading on with using the adjustable light control. I can turn my phone into a hotspot and go on the Internet.
I use overdrive to download books from a public library. You have to get a library card from the library to download books.
Our printer is wireless and I can send things from my iPad to the printer. I got a good cover that holds my iPad. It has heavy duty corner that has protected it when I have dropped it. It is black leather with a swivel cover.
I have games on it that I can play and a nice camera.
Love my iPad. |

| LOVE LOVE LOVE my kindle paperwhite.... I was like you had paperback books everywhere... AND the other great thing I love is I can make the words bigger and don't need to wear glasses to read it.... AND I have only bought 2 books since my boys gave it to me 3 years ago... I download free books... OF course you have to take what is free... but I love to read and can read anything.. I don't need the internet on my kindle as we don't have wifi any where near me. |

Location: Stephenville, Texas | You can also add the Kindle app to your Ipad and use it just like a Kindle. I have found the Kindles to only last 1 to 3 years. I think the Ipad is more useful. |

| I like my ipad the most and includes all the reasons dawnb gave. I just like the functionality of the ibooks app for reading better than the kindle app. But I do have a basic Kindle with their 3g and you can order and download Kindle books on it without paying for internet service. |

Location: Texas | I got a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 for Christmas last year which is about $99 now, and I really like it. It's a reader -I use the Kindle app- but also works like a PC. It has word, excel, internet, etc. it has a camera with good video too, like the ipad. it takes a little getting used to the way it operates, but I love it. |

I love reading but I like reading real books. To me reading on a kindle or nook isn't the same. I like to buy the books too so I can put them in my library and admire how many books I have haha

Not always true. I love my kindle fire. I will have to admit it has cut down on my reading a little, I only read 2 or 3 books a week now because I do so much other stuff on my kindle (facebook, bhw, pinterest, angry birds, card games, etc.). But my husband claims it suits my a.d.d. I think he's just jealous because I multitask better than he does. |

Location: Slipping down the slope of old age. Boo hoo. | I have so many favorites loaded onto my Kindle Fire, plus the King James bible....and several daily devotional books...and I access Facebook, weather, etc. via my Kindle Fire. I travel a lot ..I can always have my favorite books and magazines, my bible, devotionals and can load a magazine or two for travel -- less for me to tote around when traveling. Love it. Most all of my flights have Wi-Fi access these days so as I am flying over Nebraska I can purchase or borrow a book to read.... pretty cool. I had wondered, too, how I would like it since I love books so much... but I love it. |
