| How many hours a week do you average with your full time job? Do you do part time jobs as well to support the horse habit? I am thinking about getting a part time job to have extra spending money but I know it will cut down on my riding time. Plus I feel guilty about leaving my dog alone for so long as well. |

| I work 40 hours per week at my full-time job. I am salary, so there's no incentive to work more hours, but I do frequently take work home with me.
As a part-time job, I do the books for a contractor. Right now, this only takes me about 1-2 hours per week to process payroll and all of their transactions, but from what they've been telling me, they want to increase what I do for them in 2015, so I suspect I will soon be working 5-10 hours per week for them.
My friend and I are also starting a direct sales beef company that will hopefully "go live" in January 2015 when we get our first steer processed. I have no idea how many hours per week that will take up once we are actually in business, but right now we've been spending 2-3 hours per week on planning.
If you have any skills that you could market as a freelancer, you will make more money and have more control over your hours. With my schedule, I still have plenty of time to do whatever I want. The only deadline I have is with payroll on Wednesdays - has to be entered by 7pm for them to be paid on Friday. |

Location: Lost in the corn of Iowa. | I work for a county hospital so they are pretty strict about the 40 hour work week Mon thru Fri. My husband has his own trucking company so I do his books, that takes a few hours a week. So for me I have plenty of time to get my horse habit taken care of and financed. If I worked a second job then I'd be making more money but taking away from my riding time in the summer. So for me I just have to budget my hobby and pick and choose where and how often I go in the summer. |

Location: White Mountains of AZ | I work 40 hours + overtime. During the winters it really cuts into my riding schedule with it getting dark so soon (5:30) But, we get off early on Fridays (1:30) so that helps..and my boss is awesome and for the winter months, he lets me leave an hour earlier couple days a week so I have some time to ride my horses :) I've thought about getting a 2cd job, but it'd have to be during the summer, if I wanted to keep riding threw the winter at least. |

Location: East Tennessee but who knows?! | I have 8 total, 5 that need worked and I struggle to get it all in. I work 40-45 hours with a 40 mile commute. I also write, give riding lessons, judge horse shows to earn extra.
A few years back I just had the 1 horse and I worked full time during the day and waited tables 3-4 nights a week. Waiting tables was an extra $280 - $350 a week. It was stressful but I was younger too! IMO, it was the best bang for the buck. Not a lot of regular jobs that pay that much for 12-16 hours. |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | My office lets me bring my doggies and keep them in my cubicle with me. I work 40-45 hours a week here. After leaving work I work for a lady doing leather work tow to three hours on Wed-Fri. Saturdays I have my own Online business selling the leather jewlery and tack we make up during the week. So I work 8-4 from home. Sundays are church days. I have a round pen set up with lights and I ride every night from about 9-12. Chores and everything are done by about 1am. In bed by 2 and up by 7:30 to get ready for school for my little girl and work.
ETA: Without the extra side jobs I couldn't feed my horses the way they deserve. LOL

Location: Loma Linda, CA | I'm an emergency vet tech and work anywhere from 36-45 hours a week depending on how busy it is. But yay for OT!
For p/t work I am a ranch hand at the place I board at in exchange for free board. I muck 7 stalls and sweep the walkways and stuff. Total of 45 minutes a day extra work, but free board and it gives me an incentive to ride everyday cause I'm already at the ranch and I spend a lot more time with my horse. |

| My husband has a 45 minute commute in the mornings, an hour 1/2 with traffic in the evenings. He leaves the house at 5:30 am and gets home after 7. Even when low man on the totem pole 25 years ago, he liked to be first to arrive and the last to leave. His work ethic has translated to big $$ today. His advice to our daughter when she got out of grad school was the same, show up early and stay late. She has followed his advice and just got a great promotion. |

Location: Phoenix | I work 40, sometimes 1 of 2 hours of overtime but its frowned upon. I have a 30-45 minute commute. I get home after 530....if I had a second job I wouldn't have any time for horses. |

Location: London Ontario | We commute together, We leave at 720, stop for a coffee along the way, he is usually at work at 745(Starts at Eight). I get to work about 8(don't start till 830). He works about 50 hours a week and I work 45 or so, but when needed I stay late. I too am salaried but feel that staying a little later and showing up early gets me a head. He also does a lot of cash jobs from home so that make us a lot of money as well. Once I have another horse I plan to become a dealer for some different stuff, then hopefully open up a tack store on the side. Our dogs are at home from 720-620PM, and they are fine. They get run before we leave, after we leave and before we go to bed, or just take them to the farm and they run themselves lol! As long as they have lots of exercise when you are home, toy or bones to chew on I am sure they will be fine! |

Location: Oklahoma | I work 65-75 hours a week. I'm supposed to work Sunday-Thursday. We run new inservice classes through every two weeks, and I'm currently the only certified chemicals/weapons and PPCT instructor, so I always end up having to come in on Fridays to teach all day too. Were just so short staffed, i'm always getting pulled to cover, so have to stay late to get my own job done. I just feel sorry for our Lt's and Capt's who work just as many hours, but are sallery. At least as a Sgt I still get time and a half. Just get raped with taxes if I go over 120hours in a pay period. |

Location: Central Montana | Normal schedule is 40 hours per week, anything over that is time and a half so I've been trying to rack up 8-16 hours of OT a week. We have already had two stretches of below zero weather here so I'm pretty much done riding for a few months anyhow. |

Location: Kansas | Spring , summer & fall, 46-50 hrs a week, when I don't want the extra hours. In the winter it's usually limited to 40 hrs, that is when I have have extra time for extra hours, short and cold days for riding. |

Location: on my horse | I work full time 36-40 hours a week although some weeks I have a weird schedule like last week. I only worked ten hours which stresses me out! I am a full time student, teach riding lessons, take in a couple colts on the side to get me by, and take my dog with me to work on long days and of course she's with me when I'm riding and studying. I ride in the dark this time of year, summer is easier because i either get up at 5 to ride or ride til 930 or 10. Lately I don't get off work until 530 get home at 630 do my colts spend some time with my main man (he gets december off from riding) and then go in and study.
My sundays suck because I do as much homework as possible for the upcoming week and meal prep for the entire week as well but it saves me a ton of time and I love having actual food to pull out and eat when I come dragging in at night. |

Location: Willows, CA | We work almost every day. In the Winter we try to close the office by 4pm so everyone can get their horses ridden. In Summer it goes longer, sometimes much longer. We love it. |
