Location: Illinois | I have a chance to pick up a impeccably bred high school rodeo horse for next to nothing. He was bought at a sale by a friend of mine and 2 as told he was cold backed but the only reason he was for sale was because the kid was leaving for college. Anywho, she got this gelding home and could not make him buck for anything. Pulled him fresh off the trailer, saddled him up, and took off. Gigged him with spurs, flopped around, took him on barrels, tracked cows out of the box, swung ropes, breakaway roped, nothing. Then they caught a steer and the rope got wrapped around the geldings hind end and he came unglued. Like NFR bronc unglued. It makes me nervous because I have had a horse that was very unpredictable and would jut randomly icky on me and I hated it. I don't think this guy is like that, just think he has a thing with ropes on his butt. Long story short, my friend sold him to a girl who has basically starved him and she bought him back. So now I am thinking I want to buy him, fatten him up and either do barrels on him or sell him in the spring for a nice profit due to his breeding. Do you think it's a good idea to take in something like that? Or should I just pass this one by?

Location: Texas | It depends on how much his price is and are you willing to take the time to teach him to not be afraid of the rope touching his legs. Someone obviously skipped a step when he was being broke. I would definitely put him in a round pen with a rope and start getting him used to it around his butt and then move to his legs. I would not rope anything on that horse until you get the problem solved. That could get dangerous real quick. |

Location: Texas | Depends on the price. I wouldn't pay anymore than $1500, maybe $2000. Get a GOOD, descriptive lameness exam done on him, then I would send him to a friend of mine that ropes and starts colts and fully disclose to him the problem. If he can deem the horse as safe I would start horse on barrels and exhibition then either keep the horse or sell him. |

Location: Illinois | I'm able to get him for $600 due to the fact the friend of mine had to basically go and take him back before he was starved and that's what she paid the girl to get him back. I wont be able to ride him for a while so I plan to do a lot of ground work and basically start him from scratch and not skip the rope around the legs and butt step. I don't rope so it's not a huge deal to me that he doesn't like to drag steers. I would use him for barrels. |

Location: Indiana | I have a Nonstop Firewater and Jets Payday mare and I LOVE LOVE LOVE her. She will not overrun a barrel and the only times we hit barrels is because of rider error. I would definately try this horse, I think he would be worth all the time you need to put into him. |

| I have a 2 yo filly bred exactly this way. Had her broke this summer. She never bucked with him, bucked after being saddled and lunged, but never with him. She had some ground issues, manners, but he got that worked out and she leads, stands tied, saddles like any old horse. She rides good now, just a little green, not sure what I want from her, but a very good girl. He said he had broke several Jets Payday horses and they are all like that. A little different in the beginning, but don't give up, they turn out to be very good barrel horses. I have a lot of hope for her. |

My only problem is he is 11.. just hoping that's not to old to work out whatever is bothering him. I wish I knew more of his back story. All I know is the kid originally sold him because he was going to college and could only take one horse, this guy was his second in line.
Thanks for all the feedback. I think I am going to give him a chance! |

| OMG! Your horse is a full brother to my 2yo mare. See the pedigree for Nonstop Paychex. She is a red dun with a beautiful head and hips. She is right now about 15 or 15.1 and built like a train. I think that comes from Jets Payday. My horse breaker is a well known starter for barrel horses, Charmayne, Mark Bugni, Kim Thomas, went to Brazil last summer to do clinics and he liked her. He said like most of them, they are a little harder in the beginning, but worth it. I just put my mare pedigree out there, so I hope it comes up for you, if not it will later. Good luck. |

Wow! That is so awesome! Did you get her from her breeder? I know he came from Indiana where Nonstop Firewater is standing. She is a cute little thing, found a pic of her on BHW sale ads. He is about 15.1 and built more racey. I will attach a pic. He is a classic dun and has a pretty little head on him. I found her pedigree on allbreed
ETA: This is before he got sold to the girl who didn't feed him, he is about 300lbs lighter now :(

Location: Illinois | I went and got the gelding and I have to say it makes me absolutely sick that some people can do this to an amimal.. he is much worse than I thought. If he makes it I think he will be one hell of a horse.. I am having the vet come out Thursday to see if he is going to be ok. At least if he does pass it will be with a full tummy in a warm barn.

| Many bb's have brought back horses from as bad or worse condition that your new guy. PM Tilt The Kilt or RollingRFarm. Both have been successful with horses that couldn't be moved at first.
Good luck - he's a real beauty. |

Location: Illinois | It's jut heartbreaking to see how beautiful he was and what he looks like now. He seems to be a fighter though. He made it through the night and actually nickered for his feed this morning. He seems to have the will t live and has a bang up personality. Such a lover even in this state he is not hateful of all humans. |
